Hi everyone, I've been lurking in these boards for a few weeks now, admiring and furiously trying to learn the completely different language used by posters in these boards (I've never seen so many acronyms, and I'm in IT!).

I'm about to head off on a family holiday in December for 10 weeks, which will take us PER-HKG-SFO-HKG-PER. Once in SFO, we will also likely be booking domestic US flights to BOS, MCO, JFK, and HNL.

My question is regarding the AA Plat Challenge, and whether it is possible to take it completely on a CX itinerary? Reading the literature it seems to be possible, with 100% points if we were flying normal economy rather than discount economy.

In addition, if it is possible, when exactly is plat status awarded, and how does one access the privileges if one does not have the required card yet (as it would assumedly be in the mail back in PER).

Please excuse me if these are silly questions - it seems that there is a great deal of experience here with regards to the AA Plat Challenge.

Cheers,
David.

When travelling on CX , you can earn full miles and 1 points as long as you have an H class or higher ticket

AA Plat status is awarded at the completion of the flight that earns you your 10,000th q-point. And the FF miles for that flight are awarded with the 100% bonus miles per the Platinum entitlement.

You won't need the AA Plat card for any AA-delivered benefits, just need to know your AA number. Remember that AA Plat does not get you AA lounge access except when you have a direct same-day connection to/from an international flight.

You should get a print-out of your AA status from the AA web site and carry that with you for the CX reture flights. CX have just started to use the BA lounge at SFO and BA lounge agents are notorious for wanting to view status evidence (mostly at LHR, but can hapen elsewhere). Your AA and OneWorld status will show on your boarding passes so that will be enough for most airlines.

At the CX lounges at HKG I have never been asked for my QF card, just shown my BP with FF status printed and all is cool.

The plat status is awarded as soon as the points post. Not sure how quickly points earned on CX post on AA.

Once you can see on your account that you are Platinum I would contact AA and have them fax a letter to you confirming your status. I would also print out a copy of your on-line activity statement.

I'm sure this would be sufficient for most lounges, however I guess you may be unlucky enough to encounter someone who will deny access because you don't physically have the card.

... and edited to note that NM snuck in and answered your question better than I did. :D
