Am flying DFW - LAX tomorrow night to connect with QF12. Wondering if anyone has recent experience of lounge access options in terminal 4 as a QF WP? I actually thought that the DfW terminal were all letters but both my T/A itinerary and my QF itinerary say T 4. So far I've been to A and C so it seems odd there is a "4"?

Terminal 4 sounds like where you will be arriving at LAX, as you point out the terminals are letters in DFW.
In DFW you have access to the Admirals Club which are located in all terminals served by American

As indicated all DFW "terminals" are denoted by letters.

AA use terminals A, B, C & D - there are A/C in each. Qantas QP/SG/WP members have access to any of them before an AA flight.

Here's a map:

Just as an update for anyone flying via DFW, I visited the QF lounge in Terminal D. The lady guarding the desk in front of the lounges at first said it was "only for those catching the QF flight from DFW - SYD", but then another employee set her straight and explained to her that as a QF WP I was entitled to visit.

As far as US lounges go, it was pretty decent. Free beer wine and spirits, some edible hot food, sandwiches (each featuring Vegemite - like ham, cream cheese and Vegemite!?) drinks, plenty of space and views of the tarmac. Free wifi. Cant recall if there were showers.

I didn't take a look at the Admirals Club, as the lady who actually knew something about lounge access rules told me not to bother as the QF lounge was much better.

The lounge was located near gate 20.

That lounge is only open from 6pm until QF8 departs. You can order spirits and sparkling wine from one of the attendants.

There are showers across the hall but they are very popular and there are often queues. I have used the very nice shower facilities at the D A/C instead.

The general Admirals Club lounges are pretty average at DFW. You get a drinks voucher. No free wifi. No free food (unless you count pretzels). I once ordered a burger. I noticed the guy about to put something in the microwave. Turns out I was about to get a microwave burger. Told him to stop, left the lounge and bought some decent food for less.

How long has it been since you've been there? AT&T now provide complimentary wifi throughout all AC's in the USA (not the old T-Mobile voucher system, this is just free).

You can also go back as many times as you like and obtain more drinks 'chits'. Just ask nicely and ye shall receive.

As for the 'Amoré' food in the AC's yes, it's awful. I'm more likely to find something reasonable in the terminal, and take it in with me.

That's great if it has changed. Last visit was probably 18 months ago or so.

The AC showers in the A terminal are well worth the visitImageUploadedByAustFreqFly1345192173.644905.jpg

IMO the QF Lounge is small, cramped and about the only positives are the free food (if you're into free food) and the close proximity to the QF gates.
The AC is far superior in every other respect and the Skytrain makes it easy to transfer between terminals if you have the time.

The D terminal A/C is also a nicer place when you're travelling with young children. They have a great enclosed play area with TVs, computers with kid's games and small seats for little ones to draw at etc, and in the time we were there a bar attendant came past on several occasions to take drink orders for the supervising adults.

There are a couple of small rooms in the QF lounge which can be used as kids spaces, but they only have a TV (with no way to change channels or connect an iPad) and no other child-specific entertainment. The walls there are also only half-height (ie they don't go to the ceiling) so you're more conscious of noise than in the A/C play area.
