Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Not that I know - best I have come across ex Oz is PE on QF to HKG for around $1750 ... that'll do for the challenge ...

Even as low as 1546! I have to go to SJC for the missus anyways so I think its better overall value to do it in the US without including the the original syd-jfk fare in O. is ORD seems to come up as a cheaper option in EWR-ORD-SJC. Is it a bad place to connect flights during December? Snow storms and etc?

Have you considered doing the challenge on a few sectors of a xONEx fare?

Out of my budget plus, my schedule won't allow me to do so as my dates are set in stone for the next 6 months!

Edit: another question does anyone know if its possible to change my QF flights to AA codeshares? I vaguely remember reading somewhere whereby someone on QR out of JFK asked the check in counter to change his flights to AA codeshares.... Any chance of this happening out of Syd ? Also would PE ex SYD-SIN r/t on BA work?

Posted this at FT but thought you guys might know better for being locals!

thinking about flying this weekend. I just need to confirm a couple things. If this is my int, I should start the challenge before Friday right?

Int:

15/8 SYD-SIN QF5
15/8 SIN-SYD QF6

7818EQM x 1.5(T) = 11727EQP (I qualify for plat)

Guys if I am flying SCL-SYD in J that is 7060 miles and put it towards a challenge I should reach AA Plat but how many redeemable miles will I be awarded ?
Is it 7060*2 = 14120 ie. do I get the AA Plat benefit of 100% extra miles on the flight that was flown to reach this status ?

This question has been asked before probably by me lol but I can't recall the answer and didn't find it by skimming this thread.

Cheers

7060 * .25 = 8825 Redeemable miles. You'll get 10590 EQP and 7060 EQM. To your 2nd question, you don't get 100% unless it was a status match of the sorts. I think they've stopped giving you 100% bonuses on your qualifying flight since April.

If I had taken the SCL-SYD flight already as an AA Plat how many Redeemable miles would I earn ?
Do I get the 100% bonus as well as the 25% cabin bonus so 8825+7060 ?

No experience with that! :D but my best guess would be what you've stated.

I'm booking a trip for me, my missus and 2.5 year old to the USA in December. Flying Qantas PER>MEL>LAX>SYD>PER in Economy Saver. Will this be enough to complete the platinum challenge?

What fare class is Economy Saver?

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

You can earn either 19,131 miles, enough to complete it in K class, or 9,565 at 50% in L or M or 4,783 at 25% in G and S.

Thanks. I'll wait until tickets are issued and check the class type, then revert back to your post.

Thanks for the help!

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

You may be best to ask TA for fare class before it is issued as it may not cost much more to book the higher fare class which credits at a higher rate.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Also consider if you can book the AA codeshare as it will generally credit better than QF, assuming AA has competitive pricing vs the higher QF fare classes.

Any suggestions for creative routings to the Maldives? Qatar is currently the most cost effective option but unfortunately won't credit towards the challenge, same with my CX J ticket from Maldives to Melbourne! Unfortunately BA is just shockingly expensive for one way tickets!

MH on various routes via KUL and/or CMB?

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

Guys I am considering (been considering it for a while haha) doing an AA Plat Challenge via booking one of the J sale fares now on. The one I'm liking in particular is the $2013 fare to CGK.
From MEL this means mel-syd-cgk-syd-mel that is 7734 miles (Great Circle Mapper) which at 1.5 EQP per mile (https://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/earnMiles/travel/airlines/qantas.jsp) will get me over the 10k EQPs needed to complete the challenge.

My question now is, after completing the challenge, how many redeemable miles would I have ? Would it be 7,734 + 25% cabin bonus = 9,667 ?

And then, after I have AA Plat status, if I fly with QR one way mel-doh-cdg in J, would I be correct in saying I would earn the base miles of 10,517 plus the 100% bonus of 10,517 plus the 25% cabin bonus of 2,629 which gives a total of 23,663 redeemable miles.

So after both these trips I would have 33,330 redeemable miles.
And also (miles flown in J*1.5) 11,601 EQPs from the first trip and 15,557 (miles flown in J*1.5) EQPs from the second trip ? So 27,158 all up ?

Do EQPs earnt from completing a challenge count towards the annual total if you wish to chase EXP status ? Or do they only count for the status challenge only ?

Thanks

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

They count towards the annual total. The challenge is supposed to be like a kickstart. Ask for gold as of challenge registration date and you'll get an extra 25% on the initial challenge flights ; they offered thus to me both times without asking. Your post challenge calculation of 225% is correct.

I'm looking to do the challenge. Do you get the points why you fly or when you buy? Can I plan my trip 6 months before flight and then do the platinum challenge right before I fly to get the points? Or do I do the challenge and then book the flights.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26] was 10Apri

You qualify when you fly. In each case I enrolled a couple of weeks before departure. When you enrol you can give them your pnr and ask them to confirm eligibility if you want to.

Where do i go online to register for this? Is it still available?

My parents are going SYD-DFW QF Premium economy and DFW-GUA in Y class and then return. And i'm thinking they could get OWS for a while which they'd enjoy for their trips around oz on QF

Would they qualify with the first leg?
