It would need to be a QF operated flight and not a QF codeshare on JQ operated flight.
If you are referring to Futaris' example the HNL flights are indicating a 767 operated flight which is QF.
You are right when there is a QF codeshare on JQ metal then only QF FF will earn points/SC other OW programs will not.

In the above example, it was AA7359 from SYD = QF3 from SYD.

There are two flights from SYD-HNL nowadays. QF3 (Qantas) and JQ3 (Jetstar). I doubt you could book a flight on JQ3 from AA.com, since it probably doesn't have a codeshare...

Are you sure? I don't know of anyone trying it yet . I would not be surprised if the QF codeshare did earn AA miles

No I am not sure but other examples such as LAN flights not on LAN Chile do not count.
Would QF codeshares say SIN-CDG on AF count?
But my experience is limited and I have mostly focused on QF schemes and only looked at AA for the SO when we were planning our honeymoon.

LAN flights are explicitly listed on the AA details as

"° LAN Airlines and LAN Peru are members of oneworld. LAN affiliates LAN Argentina and LAN Ecuador are not members of oneworld, and AAdvantage miles earned on flights marketed or operated by these two affiliates do not count toward elite status qualification"

Under the QF section it only says

"Flight mileage may not accrue on flights operated by carriers other than oneworld carriers."

so flights may or may not be eligable; need someone to try n see

Dave

Even if AAdvantage is generous enough to credit mileage on JQ operated flights, why would they offer status points/miles/segments for a non-OW airline?

Since the OP is talking about status run (challenge) that is what matters most here.

If it is eligable for miles, then it will also be eligable for qpoints and qmiles and status bonuses will also apply

I would not be surprised if QF codeshares on JQ do credit to AA as per the QF booking class

Earn elite-status qualifying points, miles and segments when you purchase eligible fare tickets and fly on American Airlines, American Eagle, AmericanConnection, Aer Lingus (through March 31, 2007), Alaska Airlines (including Horizon Airlines), British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, LAN (including LAN Peru), Qantas Airways and/or American Airlines codeshare flights*.

* Ticket must reflect an American Airlines coded flight number

Looks like only AA codeshares qualify, at least in theory. We know how well FFP computer systems are programmed.

That's just a UScentric description

Codeshare flights of airlines do count and are even mentioned on the pages for individual airlines as based on what I posted

Hi - I assume youhavent had chance to read the sticky about challeneges etc.?

You need to sign up NOW for challenge if you are planning to fly on non-AA metal in 2007 and complete the challenge then. The rules are changing so that any challenges started after 1 Jan 2007 can only be completed on AA metal.
AA codeshare flights sold on AA ticket stock will still qualify for challenge in 2007.So if fly QF BNE-LAX it will count if the AA codeshare is used and the ticket issued by AA.However if you use a QF ticket with the QF flight number it will not.

My bad (again). Just so I understand - what is the benefit for AA of allowing this? DO they earn full $ for the ticket sold?

I ahev never really understood the whole codeshare thing - and why it impacts of miles earning etc...

Whether it is on AA ticket stock is irrelevent. If booked on the AA codeshare on Qantas ticket stock, it will still be valid . All that matters is that the flight has an AA flight number

Dave

Alright, looks like I'm doing the following on a Qantas Ticket. Unfortunately, couldn't get the codeshares booked on AA, so have to take the following:

QF175 BNE-LAX N class (0 Qmiles?)
QF3243 LAX-SFO N class (0 Qmiles?)
QF3152 SFO-LAX V class (500 Qmiles / 500 Qpoints?)
QF176 LAX-BNE V class (3586 Qmiles / 3586 Qpoints)

Is there someway to get around N-class not earning points? Can a QANTAS ticket be upgraded after being issued???

Well, if the rules allow it you could pay to upgrade it to a higher fare basis. N class cannot be upgraded with miles nor will allow mileage earning to AA

your V class earning assessment seems about right

Can this done after the ticket has been issued? Alternatively, can the N segments of the ticket have my QFF#, and the V class have my AA#?

I'd still like to complete the Plat Challenge somehow...

Well I have just booked my flights for September and as my email from AA said AA ticket stock thats what I did.Bonus is after fuel fines it is cheaper than QF ticket. Now hoping aussie dollar remains strong until payment day.
As an aside.Having an unscheduled trip to JFK in April. Therefore I can now tell you it is unlikely Jal will join oneworld until after may 5th.If they join on 1st April will not need the challenge in september.

It depends on the rules of the fare. The best thing to do is phone QF and ask then what is allowed on your ticket

Dave

The flight was booked through Corporate Travel / SABRE and not through QANTAS directly. Is it possible to contact the airline directly and make changes? If so where can I find the contact details?

Do I need to contact the sales offices directly?

I guess this is possible since Service Fees are mentioned here:

Note: Depending on the Fare Type purchased, you may also need to pay a change fee. You may also have to pay any difference between the fare for your new booking and the original fare.

Also, is there anyway to easily check availability of fare classes online???

Thanks

Generally, before travel has commenced you should go back to the agent from whom the ticket was purchased in order to make changes.
