Hi All,

I have been WP for 3+ years, but never got to try the SYD QF F lounge "All day menu", since all my flights always depart Sydney in the morning.

My questions:
1) If I never had the "All day menu", am I missing anything?
2) Do you go out of your way to book an afternoon/evening flight so you can have the "All day menu"?
3) The only afternoon flights that I can see are to Dubai. However I prefer to go through Asia on my way to Europe. Is going through DXB the only way to sample the "All day menu"?

Thanks!

PS: I know of a 3pm flight to singapore, but it gets to singapore really late, so it is a waste of a day. So not really ideal!

I thought of flying a OW carrier. But with 2 kids in tow, last time I flew with a OW carrier, my kids were refused entry into the F lounge on OW rules.

1. Well kinda- much more extensive range after the breakfast menu
2. Yes I do - and also so that I can go to the F lounge as early as possible (mind you this is a once a year experience for me though as that is how often i transit SYD)
3. CX has an afternoon flight that should connect easily to its European flights.

That is very strange...

As a WP I believe you will be going in under QF rules, irregardless of which airlines (OW) you fly? QF WP rules are more generous on children, but stricter on guests' airlines...

It is only if accessing via OW status (i.e. OWE like me), where you get the problem of children (fwiw though, kids <3 are not considered as "guests" in the QF F lounge the last time I entered as a OWE... but YMMV)

Others feel free to correct me if I am wrong though!

Few QF to SIN and my two boys were not counted as guests (10 yrs old).

I was under the impression that the rule was < 18 yrs old don't count as a guest?

You are missing out on the salt and pepper squid and the pav.

If you are under QF WP rules yes.
If you are under OWE rules, then no (though they make some leeway for kids <3yo)

last time I flew CX and when they saw my CX boarding pass they told me I am under OWE rules, even though I am QF WP.
I would be really angry if the lounge dragon is wrong and I should have been allowed in under QF WP rules!!

just to clarify the situation, did you have your QF WP number on the boarding pass?

Yes I did.
I even showed them my QF WP card.

They say as it is a CX boarding pass, you are under OWE rules and children are counted as guests. QF children policy does not apply.

Have you thought about going to the MEL FLounge? The menu is the same.

Why go to SYD when there's a great QF FLounge in MEL? Transiting between domestic and international is much better in MEL than in SYD.

From the sounds of it he lives in Sydney. Adding a Melbourne leg just to sample the all-day menu, with two kids, is probably not worthwhile.

Hmmz maybe that is the right policy (it's a little unclear) where flying on a OW airlines means you are automatically on OW rules.

Best if you could write to QF to clarify.

Happened to someone else below (see post #6)

I've been seeing some good fares to Europe in J through Japan, QF continuing on with JAL. Not the shortest connections but I always like to hang out at the transfer point for a while to help with the jet lag.

In this case QF25 to HND would be your friend.

My understanding is since you're travelling as an OWE on a CX flight, from QF's POV you're an OWE regardless your status in QFF. Your status will only be recognised as an OWE in the system, the lounge operator has no factor in how your status is being regarded. Similarly for a CX DM on a QF flight, when you arrive in a CX lounge, you're still being regarded as OWE in the system (despite lounge angels might treat you differently)

Looks like you got defiled by the dragon.

Firstly, the child access guide (https://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/qantas-club-lounge-access/global/en) makes reference only to 'Qantas lounges' not the QF FF program in particular. There is nothing to suggest those rules 'belong' to the QF program rather than the lounge itself.

That not withstanding, even if the rules were applied to QF FF members only, you were still entitled to enter as a QF plat member. https://www.qantas.com/travel/airli...ional-t1/international-first-lounge/global/en - clearly states that you are eligible to enter as a QF plat member as your "Next onward flight must be on a Qantas^, Emirates^, China Eastern*, Jetstar Airlines+ or oneworld operated and marketed flight. #". You have a CX ticket on CX metal, fulfilling the last criteria.

So basically you got doubly rorted. Sorry!

Yep.

The lounge staff often get this wrong.

As has been established several times on AFF and confirmed by Qantas (I believe), it's the more generous access rule that applies when both QF and OW rules are applicable.
