I am aware of the A380 auction for the first flight but when will Singapore Airlines commence flights for the general public?

I don't believe that information is public yet.

Singapore Airlines A380

Entry into scheduled service will commence on the Sydney route soon after the First Flight. A further announcement will be made on this in due course.

So early November maybe?

Also keep in mind that there are several flights to/from SYD per day, so even when introduced into general service it won't be on all flights.

Thanks Mal
Here's hoping it's available in November. It is my husbands birthday and it would be nice to travel on the new plane. We are looking at flying to coughet or Singapore but depends on the flight availability.

We now dont want to book anything in case we can get on the A380

The A380 will be deployed on a very specific pair of flights.

All will be revealed in due course. :)

The first flight departs Singapore bound for Sydney on Thurs. 25 October, with the auctions to the general public beginning next Mon. 27 August.

To bid on a first class seat, you will need a bank guarantee of AUD$10,000 per seat, and AUD$1,000 in business and economy to ensure prices aren't driven up by non-genuine bidders.

Do you know if they plan to do this as a Dutch Auction, or if they will auction off each individual seat as a separate auction, such as "you are bidding for seat 23D"?

I don't know if its going to get as specific as specifying the seat number, i'll see if I can find out.

The ebay site for the auction is here:

eBay View About Me for singaporeairlines_sq380

The press release is here:

http://www.a380.singaporeair.com/content/news/newsrelease/20070816/pdf/pressrelease.pdf

And a bit more detail here:

Charity Auction Starts 27 August
The auction of seats on the First Flight will commence on Monday 27 August 2007. Seats
in all three classes will be sold progressively, across both legs of the flight. Bids will be
staggered to finish at various times over a period of just over two weeks, with the auction
cycle being completed on 10 September 2007.
The auction will be for single, double and multiple seats in each class.

Also in relation to J

Multiple packages in singles and pairs are available for bidding.

One block of four is also offered

SO I assume that there will be multiple packages available for purchase and then you get to pick which seats.

If only I had a spare few grand - it would be a great wedding anniversary ;)

Thanks QF009.

SA have replied with "No details available as yet etc" . So will just have to wait. Hoping that the A380 will be available in November

Im not interested in the auction as everyone will be bidding.

We recently flew back from London with SA and I just love their service.

Anyone keen on being on the first flight SIN-SYD 25102007 0800/1745?

I registered to bid yesterday and have just received confirmation of qualification.

It will be interesting to see how the bidding pans out on eBay but my gut feeling is it fall into the AUD$1500 to AUD$2000 per sector range for WHY.
Being a day flight there would seem to be little point paying the Biz premium unless you have corporate support (unlike me).

I am currently having some trouble convincing mrskarengoodwin that this is a unique historic event and well worth the expense/trouble of taking a quick 2 day return trip ex BNE (drew a blank stare!).

Talked to "Groundfeeder" tonight (who happens to be my brother) and he unfortunately has a BNE-SIN-BNE trip planned the week before so will be unlikely to amongst the bidders.

I am keen to know if there are others in this forum who (like me) would be prepared to give an arm & leg to be on the first commercial A380 flight.

Funny enough I got the same blank stare from my wife.

Must be a chic thing, some of them just don't get it.

I'd sell my lefty for a seat, even if its on the wing or in the dunny.

:D

I lay claim to membership of the 'blank stares' club. I might be missing the point, but unless you're going in F - the inflight product is going to be identical to that currently found on the 77W... Airbus kinda killed the A380 excitement for me when they delayed delivery and SQ was forced to launch the new products on the 77W first. It meant I'd already experienced 2/3s of the A380. Don't think I'm going to afford SQ F anytime soon though. :(

It would appear simongr will not be eligible for membership of the "Blank Stare Club"

I didnt say it would be a great wedding anniversary for mrssimongr ;)

After I read your posting I want to now bid ! Maybe you can run some kind of RAFFLE !

You really should say it will be horrible and no one will bid

I am curious also
Maybe my husbands boss can give him a birthday present! as my husband could fly for the company! wearing his companies logo !

Oviously I am female so all the other wives could buy a raffle ticket for their husbands?????????????

Thanks Kate.

Not sure the raffle concept would get off the ground. Having just reviewed the posts on this topic the prizes at this stage would seem to total an arm & a leg (donated by myself) & one testicl_ of a matching set being offered by Nathan75.

Working on a hunch that Nathan75 might well be around 32 years of age I suspect that the donation of any instruments of procreation might well draw a blank stare from mrsNathan75 (or the immediate surgical removal of the other one!)

And so it seems we have gone full circle.

But it's nice to know we have a growing band of those who desire to be in the Airbus/SIA history books.

My biggest fear is that the eBay auction will be held during work hours as the IT naz_'s at my work have blocked internet access to eBay.
If it's held during the evening when I'm home I'll be much happier as a bit of bravado is required on eBay at times & a cab-sav or two can become a valuable bargaining assistant.

On another aspect, I think I read amongst KiwiFlyer's posts that he has previously expressed an interest in history-making flights so if anyone has a good line of communication with him could they let him know there is a growing band of anatomically deficient, like-thinking people on this forum just now.

Spot on with the age and I'm still laughing, great post.

Lets see what happens. I'm in the process of purchasing scale die casts of all the airframes that I've travelled on as I recently walked into a store in BKK (MBK). I am about 7 short but I couldn't help but buy a Qantas a380-800. Its my pride and joy at the moment.

If I miss out there will be 6-12 months to save for a Qantas a380 flight as Singapore is getting them 6 months before anyone else providing Airbus can pump out the a380 at 1 a month as required to be profitable.

SQ releases details of first A380 scheduled services: 28OCT

SQ will begin scheduled A380 services to Sydney on Sunday, the 28th of October 2007.

From doing a dummy booking on singaporeair.com, it can be observed that SQ221 SIN-SYD and SQ220 SYD-SIN are going to be the initial pair of flights operated by the A380.

Seat map of the A380:

edited to add: I forgot there was already a thread on this - http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/singapore-airlines-krisflyer/a380-when-do-flights-commence-10770.html
  Sorry mods! I'd be cool if you merge the 2. :)

Re: SQ releases details of first A380 scheduled services: 28OCT

Thanks for the info.

Tried a dummy booking.

Selecting a first class suite cost nearly double a regular first class ticket!!

However, no difference with the business class flights.

Re: SQ releases details of first A380 scheduled services: 28OCT

Looking at "show schedules" and then clicking on "details", it's still showing B747-400.

How would I know that it's actually the A380?
