I'm on QF119 27/7 (Welcome to guest someone into the BNE lounge if needed)

I see that the rear section of seating is vacant - rows 6 + 7.
Currently I'm in 2E with a full cabin so thinking empty seats in the rear might be a bit more virus-friendly?

Anyone have an opinion on these seats? Looks like 7A is right next to a window so I could lob there for the duration.

The only reason that you might want to avoid this mini cabin is that it backs onto the front row of economy - so if there's screaming babies in the bassinets on the front row of economy you better believe you're gonna hear them the whole way.
Also, on the A330-200, you're a long way from the nearest galley, which means that there's not a lot of walkthroughs / love given to you by the crew outside of meal service times (not necessarily the worst thing if you want peace and quiet - but just a heads up).

Sometimes the babies can be crying in J too.. and sometimes they can be older than you imagine and in 1A :D

just sayin'
Soooo glad someone else has noticed this issue too.

I think this has settled it for me.
2E it is then :)

Thanks y'all

As the others have said, 2E is a good location. MrsK and I have used 2E/F over the years and it's a good option for the A330.
One problem if you're in the mini-cabin is that there are 3 different configurations for the A330s with different seating options for rows 6-8 onwards. Your experience might vary depending on how it ends up.

And now I am calling the A330 J seat the most uncomfortable seat ever. I just cannot seem to find a 'lazy boy' position where I have the seat back rearward, the legs up and the base tilted up.
If I am wrong and there are worse then I am glad not to be aware of them.
Can confirm that having flown B777-300 J seats on UA, Swiss and SQ earlier this year all had the same level of discomfit to varying degrees as you describe above. I am sure in the "olden" days I recall a more comfortable "lazy boy" seat experience on QF and VA international flights but I could be imagining it....

I think these are all 'Thompson' seats, which I guess is a manufacturer of chairs for aircraft.
I also recall lazy boy experience too, which might be my issue.

They are pretty awful, agree, but not the worst ones out there: Try Air NZ’s J class backwards coffin which instantly releases its neck guillotine as soon as you dare to, you know, try and look out of the window from your window seat. They are beyond moronic and the “view” of your fellow travelers’ stinky feet is something to behold too in this config.

There’s others too like the similarly silly backwards J seats on BA which seems like a cool novelty until you have to spend more than, say, 4 or 5 hours in one of them.
