I've got a 5 days stopover in HEL and thinking 5 days in Helsinki alone could be a tad too much. Now you've mentioned a ferry over to Tallin, that got me excited.
Great itinerary over the 4 weeks period and looking forward to reading more. August is not that far away :)

You can definitely day trip (or overnight if you would like) from HEL to TLL. The ferry we are catching takes about 2 hours.

The overnight boats are the "party boats". Because alcohol is prohibitively expensive in Scandinavia it's cheaper to catch the overnight and buy duty free on board once allowed for a "big session" then come back. You will find the queue for the duty free store fairly long waiting for the doors to open once they cast off!

MEL - SIN SQ238

A great flight across to Singapore on this morning flight. Our seating was not as I had originally planned which meant that noone was sitting next to MasterC. F was fully booked so we were lucky that another solo passenger was happy to swap so MasterC and myself could be next to each other for the flight. The crew were very proactive in looking after us (and everyone else) and I have already sent through my compliments to SQ headquarters.

Lunch was served about 1 hour or so into the flight. We had all organised a book the cook and I specifically ordered the barramundi with blackbean sauce, bok choy and fried rice. It was reasonable but nothing special. I had previewed the on board menu but nothing took my fancy.

After lunch and some Peppa Pig, it was time for everyone to have a nap. About 1.5 hours later, we had 3 hours to go before landing. We managed to fill the time with some more Peppa Pig, crackers, fruit and milk. The gentleman and I didn't have the pre landing refreshment as we planned on eating at TPR but we ordered the fruit platter for MasterC and it was quite substantial. Soon enough we had arrived in Singapore.

tixhr1428185349.jpeg We had an eight over layoverin SIN, waiting for our connection to CDG. We spent the first 2 hours wandering between the terminals, looking for the butterfly garden, the fish ponds and catching the trains and bus. We also found out that each terminal has a playground area for kids that came in very handy. It was located not far from the TPR and the gentleman and I took turns in escorting MasterC there.

We enjoyed a few snacks in the TPR, with my plan being going to sleep straight after take off.

SQ336 SIN-CDG

I confess that as we were traveling F, I should have a bunch of fabulous photos of the Suites, caviar, champagne etc etc to show off. But I am bereft. This was a flight where we just needed to get through to the other end as best we could.
MasterC had fallen asleep about 2 hours before boarding which was as expected. Unfortunately when it was time to go to the gate, going through security he was woken up. And so we had a very cranky little one (remembering it is about 2am MEL time at this point). Once we had boarded and the plane had taken off, he was back asleep again and the SQ cabin crew were great in getting the beds set up for all of us. Off to sleep we quickly went.
And then awake we quickly were again. About 3 hours after we fell asleep, my son woke up as it was about 6am MEL time, his usual wake up time. And everyone else in the cabin was asleep. So, in this state of emergency, it was iPad out and crackers galore. And this pretty much sums up the whole flight. My husband tagged in so we both managed to get an hour or so more extra sleep while the other entertained. Again the SQ cabin crew are awesome in finding food and drinks for MasterC which helped us get through to arrival at CDG.

tixhr1428185349.jpeg tixhr-226245.jpeg tixhr371064238.jpeg PARIS - ACCOMMODATION

We rented a 1 bedroom apartment in the 7th for our 6 nights in Paris. It was located on Rue Saint Dominique with a fantastic view of the Eiffel Tower. It was 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom with a fold out sofa (so sleeps 4). The kitchen, albeit small, was very well equipped, including dishwasher, washing machine and even a nespresso machine for me :) The extra space was greatly appreciated as it took a few days to get over the jetlag and get onto Paris time.
The location is fantastic - lots of great bakeries, patisseries, butchers etc to buy food as well as plenty of good restaurants. We ate in on most nights, which worked with MasterC, having charcuterie plates or a delicious roast chicken and potato gratin.
If we come back to Paris, I would definitely rent an apartment again.

just for interest what was the cost of the apartment - always looking for a good one in Paris, my usual one is no longer available

Interested to know who you booked the apartment through LadyC. We usually have an apartment for Paris stays but towards Montmartre and your location looks really good for a change.

We used Paris Perfect for our apartment. They were recommended by a friend who used them a few years ago. Pricing obviously depends upon location, apartment size and time of year.

PARIS - FOOD

We ate some delicious food during our stay in Paris. Most mornings we would visit one of the local boulangerie/patisseries to stock up on a couple of croissants and a baguette. As mentioned above, we ate dinner most nights at home as this worked better. Lunch, depending on the location, may have been a BYO baguette with filling or at a less than exciting kiosk at the amusement park/museum. However there were a few nice meals worth noting. As we were traveling with a toddler who goes to bed on the early side, all our dinners are at restaurants that are open all day so we could get there before 6pm.

Bistro Saint Dominique - i enjoyed the fish but the gentleman thought the entrecote was too fatty.

Su Misura - a solid italian restaurant - we all enjoyed our pizzas although the base could have been firmer.

Cafe Constant - really enjoyed my meal here and so did the others in the party. I had a crumbed boiled egg with ratatouille for entree and duck pie for main.
