Just a tip about a way to keep your account current, as points expire after 18 months and it is not as easy just to earn a point or two like it is with Qantas.

Join the e-rewards. You can earn points by doing surveys, but even if you don't want to do surveys, once you have a membership, you can get a "free reward" of 250 points.

250 points won't get you far but for me, it has given me another 7-8 months of validity of my just over 10K points.

yes, but my clock wasn't up until October next year. It is now May 2016.

You can also purchase Magazine Subscriptions and the like through the AAdvantage online mall. Not as cheap, but it's possible.

They recently had a promo for $12 you could get a three month digital subscription to WSJ and get 1700 miles. Worthwhile keeping an eye out there. If you have a US Address to ship things to, they often have up to 12 miles per dollar bonuses.

That's a cheap way of buying 1700 AA miles.

I used to send e-Rewards miles to Flying Club but they will now go to AAdvantage.
