Next it was time to actually head to the main arena for this trip. That meant driving to Dulles to drop off the hire car and check in with Copa Airlines to go from North to Central to South America.
I had a couple of hours to kill after the car return so grabbed a coffee and sorted through photos from previous trips. Eventually check in opened and it was up to the dedicated desks.
Dulles is an airport clearly of its time with extensive use of concrete and they haven't yet gone to flexible check in desks; instead each airline is named above its counters.

Departed 40 minutes late; arrived on time.
After check-in, fairly quick and painless security (and no immigration departing USA), it was onto the shuttle train and across to the free-standing concourse buildings. My flight was from A concourse but there was a Turkish Lounge in B, so I headed there.
Some nice views from the lounge although it was very busy as I think it was the only *A lounge available in that terminal.
Lufty pulled in with an old-school A340. Then, shortly after, they kept the German speakers together and put Austrian on the adjacent gate.
The Max9 is the newest aircraft in the Copa fleet. A slight delay boarding after they started scanning pax through... can anyone see the problem?
This aircraft features 2-2 lie-flat seating in J.
Aircraft was full and then there was about half an hour of faffing around after everyone had boarded where ground staff kept coming onboard asking for about three or four pax to identify themselves. Then they had images of the people they were looking on their phones and must have sorted out whatever the problem was. Some images whilst we waited.

Note the United hub terminal in the background.

- I still hate you.
This A321 was doing IAD-MAD which is apparently an 8.5 hour sector. Something for QF to look forward to…
It was quite a bumpy flight at times but also relatively quick.
One useful feature of the inflight display is how CM lists the arrival gate and then connections. They rely heavily on the connection model through their PTY hub, so this makes sense.
