Does anyone have any tips on reasonably priced *A status runs from Australia?

I have almost re-qualified for TK Gold which runs out in July 2014, but did all my travel with United/US Air/Air Canada when I was based in North America. Now I'm back in Oz and would love a 2-year *A Gold extension

My *A status runs were mainly Y/K/PUPP type fares on UA/ISsue in North America.

These are in my opinion rather hard to find from Australia. I've maintained TG *G for over 8 years now - this year will be the last as I've switched all travel to VA and its partners.

I don't know about the TK program, but the biggest problem I found was that with TG so many booking classes on other *A partners were ineligible for accrual you had to go close to buying a full fare or a J fare. That, given the fact that NZ is the closest partner, makes it expensive to do *A mileage runs. In the US or Europe, not so much of a problem, but from here it was a PITA.

I ended up re qualifying each year because I did lots of long haul flights usually in J. This year after gaining VA Plat I would have had to do another 25,000 miles with TG to keep their *Gold and I just couldn't justify it....

But, to answer your questions. If you can position yourself to either SIN or BKK, there are a few decent TG or SQ fares intra Asia - the catch is to make sure they are eligible under the TK program rules...

Good luck

Good luck

If you can get to SIN or BKK, also think about some of the regional UA flights. They can be quite reasonable and all fare classes earn miles.
