A some what disturbing story from my taxi driver

I suspect that he was just lucky, and there was already a delay for something else. And, if it makes him feel more important to think they waited for him, then ok...

When I'm hit with any delays I tell people the exact details of why we are delayed. You can imagine how that would go down when said person arrived....

Really, it's just all a big myth.

Or perhaps the FA was simply making you an offer that they didn't think you'd accept.

Delays like that need the approval of the Captain, and he most likely won't be giving it.

She did say she had already spoken with the Captain and that he'd approved it. Maybe the FA was making an offer she didn't think I'd accept. In that case she was a very good actress. But what was she going to do if I did accept?

Well, if you call and ask for another meal, it generally takes at least 30 minutes. I certainly wouldn't wait for one meal...perhaps he was wanting to order one too.

.

If you knew this particular CL, you'd know he is not the sort of person lording over staff/other pax - he was flattered (amazed) he made the flight(s) - particularly the MEL-LAX one as it was completely avoidable and his fault.

The fact he's been retained as CL despite no longer being in a position of major influence (although admittedly still doing plenty of flying), suggests perhaps he's not overly high maintenance......

Anyway, as you note, he was probably just lucky. The helpful part really was fast tracking him though customs etc - perhaps that was where the CL helped (i cant believe they would have done this for a non-status pax), but they would have known the flight was perhaps still boarding/delayed and helped him out.

I was fast tracked from PER domestic to PER International a few years ago.

I was waiting for transfer bus, and waiting, and waiting but it did not arrive. Finally called and he rushed over and then rushed back to International via some secret roads and he escorted me to security and hardly anyone at customs anyway. He called QF service desk from PER domestic to let them know we were on the way.

Not such a funny experience at the time but one can laugh about it later.

As I said, the flight was already delayed by 40 minutes and who knows when it was noticed the meal was missing. Maybe 20 minutes before I was told it would be another 10 minutes? Also this happened in Alice Springs and I'd be surprised if it took 30 minutes to get a vegetarian meal the 50m from the caterer's hut to a plane. It's not like they have anything else to do until another plane arrives.

I'm not saying that the plane definitely would have been delayed to get my meal. I'm just saying that Qantas said that they would. If they are saying that to me, a lowly bronze Business class passenger, surely the story about them saying they delayed a flight for a Chairman's Lounge First class passenger is entirely plausible. Who knows the real reason the flight was delayed, maybe there were mechanical issues or something.
