It refers to the type of flight that is counted as a qualifying flight for frequent flyer status purposes. Each such flight is identified with a notation "~" on a FF member's record. Not all flights have this even though they generate points and/or status credits. For instance, Qantas FF status required 4 such flights - or 4 Mr Sqiggles - in a membership year to retain a status level.

I should add the qualifying flight is usually with the airline that the FF status is awarded. For QFF this means either a Qantas branded flight with a QF flight number or a partner airline with a QF flight number.

Whatever tier status you currently are you must have completed the four qualifying 'squiggle' flights on QF and or JQ before you reach the next qualifying level eg if you are currently silver & aiming for gold you have have achieved the 700 necessary status credits in your membership year but your tier status won't be updated to gold until you have completed your 4 'squiggle' flights in that same membership year.

Note that for JQ bookings made on the JQ website eg a starter fare or sale fares etc, you have to pay extra for the 'plus bundle' in order to earn QF points, status credits & the all important ~ squiggle ~.
