Hi all

Many years ago (>12) I used to hang around the Flyertalk forums a lot. In recent years I haven't bothered much but recently I reacquainted myself with Flyertalk and this site and have just signed up for the ANZ 50,000 point promotion. Thanks to everyone on this site.

Back in my old Flyertalk days, very occasionally offers would pop up which could be leveraged to get points or miles at a very low cost. Some of these were mileage run type deals but I recall there being a few deals where you could multiple items of the same product and pick up a small number of miles per product which, when multiplied by multiple purchases, actually worked out to be a very cheap way of getting miles. I vagually recall one chap accruing a million miles from leveraging a deal like this.

I've been in the frequent flyer wilderness for a number of years and I'm curious to know whether in the past 6 or 7 years there have been any incredible offers like that that people were able to take advantage of to accrue an incredible number of points or miles i.e. a lifetimes supply?

Have there been any such deals?

cheers Peter

The last truly great thing thing I remember was the Amex 1000 pts / transaction offer that was rather quickly withdrawn once they realised anyone could sign up for it rather than it being targeted.

That was quite a while ago now (ahh the good old days!)

One guy got a CC offer for bonus points on very purchase. He automated 1 cent payments to his toll road account.

A friend of mine used that promotion to the effect of two RTW F tickets.

And take note with each promotion there is less likehood of the next promotion.

Well, half true. They don't usually make the same mistake twice while the same people are there, but there will always be promotions you can leverage because there will be a new marketing team eventually. I keep hearing this theory that options are being shut down but this year has been pretty good so far.

When was the last time you saw a decent Amex promotion?

An Everyday Rewards promotion?

A Qantas airfare sold in Brazil without fuel surcharges?

There are more but best left alone.

ATO is a good candidate for "life time supply" ... probably on its last legs though!

A classic example. I used to earn a few points here and there but this has been milked to death and now I don't earn anything as I don't want play the "Let's get this credit card now" game....

Ah yes, the good old Macro cat food offer.
The local RSPCA did pretty good with that after I had cleaned out all the local Woolies. Not in the league of pallet sized purchases though.
