A few flight reviews - LH, TG, OS, SQ

Great reviews, thanks.

I have a couple of OS flights later this year - unfortunately only in whY, as they are part of a Circle Europe ticket. I'm trying to upgrade those legs as I've heard about the food and coffee in J!

LH business - have only flown J in their A380s TATL, which as you observe, only had angled beds installed (crazy!). But then again, I notice that you still have to play footsies with the next pax, even in the 'new' J seats/beds. Service in my trans Atlantic flight was not great - I'd call it perfunctory.

TH business - my experiences very similar to yours (including parking 'stand off' at BKK and a very long walk through the terminal!). I don't think you missed any 'quiet moments' at the Royal Orchid lounges - I've always found them packed and not entirely pleasant (other than the ability to take a shower). the spars are good for a neck or calf massage though.

So, how would you rank the J class of the 4 airlines overall?

The coffee on Austrian is meant to be pretty good, but I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but could be another stand out for people who really appreciate it...

I think the food etc on Austrian was a bit of a stand out, although I imagine SQ could be pretty good as well, i only had the breakfast on that flight but would love to do a long haul SQ flight with a book the cook... I think the inflight entertainment options were a little bit more limited on OS than on TG from memory, OS probably had the fewest movie choices so if that is important you might want to consider, if you travel with your tablet loaded up then not such an issue... The narrow leg room in OS was also a bit different on the single J seat so if your claustrophobic or don't like being enclosed maybe keep it in mind, not such a problem if you were in one of the J rows of two seats by the sound of it...

TG is pretty solid about most things I find, the flight on the regional J to Perth had angled flats but I have also done a TG A380 BKK-CDG which had 1-2-1 arrangement with lie-flats in J so all have access to the aisle, seperated from others, reasonable food and presentation and service.... I rate TG a bit ahead of LH which is solid but not necessarily inspiring... And i've only had time for 1 30 minute necka nd back massage in their spa from the 7-8 J flights i've taken with them, but that was nice little extra...

Again it depends on each airline which aircraft you have, i flew a TG 777 BKK-MAD and it had angled lie flats but with like a 2-2-2 arrangement the cabin seemed a lot bigger thant he same arrangement on the TG A333, but still the angled lie flats on like a 14 hour flight let it down a little... I have seen a pic of J on LH on their A380s and why you would put angled lie flats on a premium plane I have no idea??? So probably be a plane by plane basis on my choices...

Reading that all back, did it answer anything??? :)

No worries.

I've made exactly the same point about the LH A380 old J seats in other threads. Baffling that they wouldn't put new, lie flat seats into the new, flagship aircraft. And storage space at-seat virtually nil!

Can't recall where I read this but I believe they are looking into putting new seats into the A380 now? Stupid I know.. should have done it from the start!

Yeah i think i read the same thing somewhere about a refurbishment...

Bit of an original brain fade and then by the time they get around to fixing it they have already given so many of their competitors a leg up when they were one of the first airlines to have the A380...
