Thanks for a great trip report.
I love all things France. My most visited country in Europe. I have been to Paris 10 times.
I have been to many areas of France and what I love is that they are all so different. The architecture, the food, the countryside, the wine and the people.

Have you been to the Dordogne region, Sarlat, Domme etc. If not add it to your list.

Another great TR and strongly recommend Sans Souci. I first saw it in a letter in the Age and is one of the few places that didn't disappoint. I was the only guest for a few days and the boys were just great to me.

@RooFlyer I loved those small towns - is there a reason why you picked those towns in particular or did you choose them because you were in the area. I've got so many photos of France that need to be digitised

Funnily enough I was looking at World Heritage places in France and the Lascaux Cave cam up. I have a feeling I'll be there at some point.

I had the general route planned between the major town then looked for interesting (historical) places along the way,

Yes we visited there in 2009. Well worth the visit. The Tour de France rode past there the other night.

And if I recall right you like foie gras, Sarlat is famous for all things duck. And Sarlat has a wonderful market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Have I convinced you to add it to your list? Lots of history in this area.

Clearing immigration was a bit fraught. I knew from @Seat0B 's posts that Omani immigration was interested in any prior visits to Oman, but that seemed to be for on-line visas (or so I thought). I was getting a visa-on-arrival, so wasn't prepared for the official's questions about: when I was here before 'a long time ago' I answered - when? Can't really remember, sorry. Do you have a photo of the passport used then? No, sorry. He flipped back and forth through my passport and then stamped it and I was away. I didn't feel at all welcome in Oman.

My experience was on-line and I certainly did not feel welcome at all. I did get a better reception at the Mussandam land border asking for a visa on arrival, but it was still fraught - I am never usually nervous about a border crossing, but I was about this one. Such a shame because Oman is a lovely place to visit. It has certainly made me re-thin my future plans for Oman though as I still don't have access to my old passport that was used to go to Oman in 2016.
