Thanks for the trip report. Will be trying J out in Sept for the first time on the return leg Mel to Per. Looking forward to it.

you will be blown away by J on the 330, much much better than the 738's!

You guys are a picky bunch. I'd much rather the 330 (regardless of the interior) compared to the 737 in J full stop...

I'm quite happy with XFA / XFB - I don't really like "Red" so bring my own IFE in any case. On XFA/XFB the node/belly cams can be available.

Nothing against A/B, probably more of a first world problem but who doesn't like "new" although I'd like to make a comparison between both J offerings given if I get assigned A/B next week.

From pics I've seen of J in AB, I somehow find The J seat is more personal on the newer birds.

I heard that AB are making more appearances departing MEL due to BNE being added to the 330 flights.

Seat selection doesn't seem to be available when making a dummy booking so Ill se what's on offer.

As it has been discussed, J on the 330 is above and beyond J on the 738, VA should of followed their sister VX when selecting a suitable J seat in the early stages with RED and in seat power, I find the current J should get revamped and reinstalled but that probably won't happen anytime soon.

Agree the IFE is lacking on non-A/B birds.

If in whY, anything but A or B. J is not so bad in A and B but I still prefer it a lot more. Having a big backside means the newer seats work far better for me (and I can sit in row 1 and not worry about bulk head lack-of-legroom).

On my flight on A on the w/end the IFE just got stuck in a loop (of changing channels). It kept asking for a CD to be inserted and for the power to be cycled on the map channel!

Makes me wonder why VA decided to purchase AB from EK, were they that desperate for the 330s for relaunch and couldn't lease/ buy factory fresh like C D E G?

Thanks for the great TA and photos doing this trip in November and not sure whether to book QF or VA what would be your suggestion, any experience on QF on this route?

From what I've heard so far VA would be the best way to go transcontinental, so far VA have better J seating as well as food offerings. Plus 4/6 of the 330s are new!

Apart from the 4 international 332's, all of the QF 332's are fairly new themselves...

It's what you do with the hard product that counts... And VA are on the ball for best J transcontinental!

That I'm not arguing. For the majority though there is hardly a significant difference in the economy offerings between the 2.
