After a Georgia man quit his job, his employer dumped over 90,000 pennies onto his driveway. Now the U.S. government is suing the employer, arguing it was an act of illegal retaliation.

In November 2020, Andreas Flaten quit his job at A OK Walker Autoworks. Instead of mailing Flaten his final paycheck, his employer sent a truckful of pennies that added up to $915. The pennies were also covered in a sticky, oil-like substance, according to Flaten’s girlfriend who posted about the incident on Instagram.

Flaten filed a report against Miles Walker, owner of A OK Walker Autoworks and his former boss, with the U.S. Department of Labor citing that Walker had failed to give him his last paycheck.

Now the Department of Labor is suing Walker, filing a complaint with a Georgia federal court. The lawsuit alleges that after learning about Flaten’s complaint to the Labor Department Walker said, “how can you make this guy realize what a disgusting example of a human being he is...you know what? I've got plenty of pennies; I’ll use them.”
