A 380 Orders

Second order. NH agreed to take 3 recently IIRC.

That perhaps wasn't a "pure" order in the sense of a new order to a new customer, wasn't it linked to ANA's investment in Skymark, (with their bankruptcy, cancelled A380 order and Airbus being major creditor)?

True, but a major coup for Airbus to get the 380 into the Japanese market and to keep chipping away at Boeings dominance in Japan.

It will ultimately make very little difference. Apart from Emirates, I doubt that many of the outstanding orders will ever be filled.

Yes but just 3 only plying the route to HNL is hardly compelling.

It seems VS won't be taking theirs. I'd expect that EY & QR would take their remaining orders, IIRC SQ might be taking theirs (replacement??), and QF's last eight - they seem unlikely?

What is interesting, three of the original airlines that ordered A380's have essentially gone bankrupt - Kingfisher, TransAero and Skymark - before taking any aircraft. And two more probably would have gone bankrupt if left to market forces - MH & probably TG.

So does anyone know how much of a commitment an airline has to make when it "orders" an aircraft. I'm sure it varies from deal to deal, but there must be some sort of deposit, surely?

You never know. They might just decide that it's a great aircraft and order more. That's what Airbus will be hoping anyway.

If I was Monsieur Airbus, I'd be wanting to see the Iranians' cash - all of it - before lifting a finger.
