One of my friends needs 925 SCs by December to retain WP status. Can anyone please provide some suggestions? They are Sydney based, and can fly to the US to get some YUPPs and KUPPs if needed

Any help would be appreciated :)

Be cheaper to soft land to Gold then try based on flying for next year, IMHO its not worth it if you are that short!

So in the last 8 months they have only managed 275 SC - and they're talking about a status run? Doesn't sound very rational to me. Perhaps if they needed 50 or 100 SC, but over 900 is a bit silly.

Plenty of across the USA ex HNL options (eg HNL-LAX-LAS-DFW-RDU (O/night)-MIA-POS(O/night) and back the same way on a Yupp will get the required SC's. Search for Yupp titled threads in here.

However I agree with the sentiment previously expressed of "why do it when you are so short?"

Thanks folks - yes, this is for newbie me. I've been plat for 6 years, and am just terrified of dropping, just before I do my Jan trip to Us/can. Yes, I was looking for the quick fix!

It sounds like I need to pray the points upgrade gods reward me, and then get some good points runs in '13..

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

As mentioned simply drop back to Gold and try again next year.

I'm in the same sort of predicament as the OP - though my status points to dat are even worse. I've decided to make that soft-fall to Gold, because next year I have at least two Europe trips to book which will put me up back into Platinum - will feel strange, but thems the breaks when you are a self-funded travller!

If you've been WP for many years and have forward travel booked then there is always the chance of being comped. Sometimes we have to not be so precious like flying an airline without status or soft dropping to gold, no?

Forward travel is actually irrelevant for some comps, if the OP takes the 4 years of being WP and adds up the total SCs, my guess is anything over 6000 will see a comp.

I'm taking the soft landing from November. Not worth the effort to requalify this year and at least we get one more go at the F lounge in SYD before the end of WP status!
Did requalify SG with DJ though after being comped last year.
