Just got a call from Qantas offering 80k points to retain Gold (about 145 sc shy this year).

Anyone got that offer too? Wonder whether its a flat 80k or whether that varies depending on how many SC you're short. Not really worth it for me as not planning to do too much international travel, might just buy a Qantas club membership to cover domestic flights! Have about 400k in points.

Thoughts?

Yes - Qantas have been doing this for a few years. 80k for Gold, 100 or 120k for Platinum.

You may be better off using the 80k towards a points + pay flight to earn the 60SC.

Very sensible idea to just buy a Qantas Club membership (you can get it discounted as part of AFF's corporate scheme too).

The 80K points is a one way business class to anywhere in Asia, or just shy of a first class to SIN or HKG. I'd suggest the flight is a bit better value than the $500 lounge entry you can buy through Qantas Club.

Yes agree above. Just buy the Club membership and use the points for a trip or upgrade.
