80,000 Bonus Points on Qantas Amex Premium

It's been a while since I've seen an offer on this card so thought I'd share in case anyone has their eye on it. By using a referral link you can receive an extra 10,000 points compared to the current offer available directly via Amex or via other partners. This means you'll receive a total of 80,000 bonus points, with the referrer currently receiving 50,000 (normally 40,000). The minimum spend requirement to get these points is $3000 in the first 3 months.

This is a solid offer, around the highest I can recall on this card, though it has I have previously seen it with cashback promotions. Downside is a $249 annual fee, though unlike the more expensive Qantas Ultimate, there is no flight credit that offsets the annual fee. Other benefits include 1 Qantas point per $ at most retailers, Qantas Wine membership, and Two qantas club invitations after your first spend on Qantas Air Australia each year.

It may not be quite as good a value proposition as other offers like the ANZ Platinum 70k + no first year annual fee, but on the other hand, you may have specific requirements that made this card work for you.

You'll also then be able to refer others to the card, and be eligible for amex statement credit promotions (make sure to sign up for the brilliant thread on AFF about these).

Some other important notes/tips:

• The card has a $40,000 minimum income requirement and $2,000 minimum credit limit. In recent experience, the selection of a limit is towards the end of your application, after the credit check is done. Note that the limit of your account is shared with credit reporting bodies once the account is open.
• Government merchants - including the ATO - only award 0.5 points per $.
• As always, you need to have not held an amex in the last 18 months to be eligible for the bonus.
• The card has a 44 day interest free period. Paying off the balance in full each will help you to avoid the high interest rate that is common to awards cards.
• In my experience, Amex usually award bonus points as soon as you hit the spend criteria, even in the first month. If you are aiming to time your bonus to hit points club or points club plus in a particular membership month, keep this in mind.
• Amex regularly offer bonus points for adding supplementary/additional cardholders (eg. for your spouse). It could be worth holding off for one of these if you're going to apply for a bonus points for a family member.
• They also offer bonuses for payments via mobile wallets reasonably regularly. If you can handle the inconvenience, perhaps avoid adding the card to your phone for a while to see if you can be 'encouraged' to do so
• In the past, Qantas have offered extra bonus points for people who haven't held a points-earning-card in a certain period of time. It's worth checking their cards website to see if there's a current offer, as you could end up with tens of thousands of new points, even if applying for the card via a referral link.
