In the last three weeks I have flown on 77W's between Singapore & Australia on three airlines in economy - Emirates, British Airways and Singapore Airlines (and once on BA in World Traveller Plus). Whilst I have flown many times in economy on 777's, being so close together allowed good comparison as all flights are fresh in my memory, all day or evening flights and all the same aircraft type.
SQ and BA have their economy cabins on these aircraft configured 3-3-3 whilst EK has the dreaded 3-4-3 configuration. My observations were:
- EK seats were definitely cramped, perhaps exacerbated by the fact I was in exit row with tray tables in arm rests. I should have stuck with non-exit row with empty seat beside me (which I originally had allocated, and I noticed remained empty).
- surprisingly, BA economy seats felt almost as cramped as the EK seats
- the BA aisles were very generous in width, not once did I bump into a seat when walking through the cabin
- the aisles on SQ and EK were very tight
- BA WT+ didn't feel much wider than SQ Y, if it all.
After this I looked at seatguru, which shows seat widths of 17" (EK), 17.5" (BA) and 19" (SQ) with BA WT+ being 18.5" in width. Whilst I always have been suspicious of seatguru's measurements, on gut feel it does feel reasonably accurate, although perhaps I'd say SQ and WT+ had same width.
Regardless, SQ definitely had the wider and more comfortable seat in Y, even though I was in a middle seat on SQ, where you think it would be more cramped (vs aisle seats I had on EK & BA).
