Well, having taken the A380 I am rather spoiled and am looking, with some apprehension, on my upcoming BNE-LAX flight on QF15. Its a 747 and I believe either RR V2 or a GE - both three class planes.

We've booked row 48 - two adults and two kids (between 8 and 12). Any other suggestions for good rows? We had 32AB and 33AB on the 380 were great pics.

Is that the version with the mini-cabin with row 43 and 44?

Row 43 is quite nice and in my opinion the equivalent if not better than non-bulkhead premium economy.

If you can somehow get 44DEFG that would be OK as there is no one behind you.

Being near the front is handy is you've got an onward connection but I prefer the pairs down the back.

Select the second row of two and onwards as the first row still has the seat in front so no extra leg room.

Sorry to sabotage this post however, I also have a flight on QF15 BNE-LAX in Business class for 2 adults and 2 children aged 10 & 7. Currently have been allocated row 3E,3F,3J,3K. Could anyone confirm if row 3 is the best seating for my family?

I would go with the upper deck given the choice like AB & JK in the same row but even two pairs behind each other is preferable to main deck IMHO.

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping upper deck but the only 4 available seats are 15AB & 16JK. Having a think if I should moved.

I can't tell you what you should do however if I was in the same boat I wouldn't hesitate grabbing 15AB & 16JK. I bet if you ask the kids if they want to sit upstairs or downstairs they'd say upstairs.

16JK are good seats as you've only got crew rest on the opposite side so it's private. You're still close enough to each other if one of the kids wants to swap seats mid-flight.

If 16JK are exit row seats then these seats should not be suitable for a 7 or 10 year old.

I think that there is now only one 747 config and they are all the upgraded layout. I had 14 A back from Dallas and this was the upper deck exit row.

This is the seat map of my flight QF15 BNE - LAX. Is this old or new config? Where are the exit rows?

This is the new config. Row 5 is lower deck exit row and Row 14 is upper deck exit row.

I am a fan of the 747 upper deck so I would go 15AB and 16JK. The kids might be better off in 16JK as the crew rest seats are opposite.

Thank you for confirming this.

You are probably right but it is very strange.

I had 16K and it definitely mentions exit row and has the ^ next to seat request.

I checked seat map and row 14 is definitely exit row so I changed to 14K instead. Hate the inconsistency in Manage your booking.

And while I was looking at that seat request noticed I have 3F for BNE-SYD flight earlier that morning. The A330 has been substituted by a 737. :(

This is an AA award and the airlines don't obviously think this is a significant change! The only reason I booked the 5:00am flight was for the aircraft type. Good luck trying to get AA or QF to change that flight now.

Sorry John K I think I need to revise my comments on the config layouts . All of the 744 ER are the new config , however it looks like there are still some of the non - ER versions that have not been upgraded. I just had another look at the QF seat maps and row 16 is the upper deck exit row on a non-upgraded version. Sorry to confuse you.
I think that ultimately it will depend on which aircraft config operates on the day.

If there are more than 9 747's active, you will find that there is more than one 747 config out there.

Row 14 is the upper deck exit on the reconfigured 747's where as it's row 16 on the older types.

You're not confusing me. Qantas is confusing me.

How can I be in 16K with a note that it's exit row but when I look at seat map row 14 is clearly exit row in red colour.

I think they are hedging their bets for an aircraft substitution !

I laughed when I saw the title of this thread.

Haven't heard economy class referred to as steerage for years!
