Hey All,

We have a transit it TPE arriving at 1525 and leaving at 2245 - arriving and leaving on BR.

Does anyone know if this will be enough time to do some quick sight seeing?
And if so - what would you recommend?

You could proba have around 3.5 hours in the city.

The bus from the Airport to the Central station takes around 1 hour - you'd be heading into the city during the afternoon peak.

You could have a walk around the ximen area - some of the airport buses do a drop off there. It's about a 20 min walk from there to the bus station that gets you back into the city.

Prob just long enough to give you a taste of Taipei. I love the city. Hope to get back next year and see some more of Taiwan. It's extremely cheap - return bus trip from airport to city is only around $8. Food is cheap. Plenty of places to eat in Ximen area. It's like a mini Tokyo. Lots of electronic boards flashing images and little KTV shops up on the 3rd floor. Pretty good shopping too if you're Asian size.

Traffic can get bad heading to and for the city, I am not sure if I would risk it. Its a pity your not arriving earlier and could take advantage of the free tours:

Free Half-Day Tour

Wow - that tour looks amazing. Its a shame we miss it :(

But sounds like it will be nice to get in for a few hours anyway - hopefully the timing won't be too tight.
We will have carry-on only so that should make it a bit easier.

By leaving the airport - we will need to go through the whole immigration rigmarole on the way back in, right?

They do look good, thinking of using BR for a flight to the US later this year, but think the flights leave about 12.30-1.00pm so would be smack in the middle of these options...

sadly the half day tours require a 7 hour minimum layover I think - immigration is pretty swift at TPE I would be game to risk a quick trip into town taking the high speed rail which is about 20mins (after taking a shuttle bus to Taoyuan station which is about 10 mins).

Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation

have done a 5 hour transit at TPE before - I wouldn't recommend it...there's only so many laps you can do after the lounge gets boring :)

I transited there for about 5-6 hours middle of this year, not the worst airport... With no lounge access i had to resort to the Burger King outlet... :)

with Taiwanese partner and as a many-times visitor to Taipei, I would start with how long you need to be there before your departing flight - they usually say 3 hours before an international flight ? In which case if you need to be back by 1945hrs you've only got 4hrs20 free - assuming you're straight off an on-time arrival. And you don't want to be sitting in peak hour traffic - the local bus (250NTD?) is the way to go - go to the counter for the destination part of town, get a ticket for and be directed to the next bus for that destination - they tend to leave every 15 minutes or so.

Having lingered many hours in the airport, I've enjoyed - I think in the older terminal (T1?) - a long walk from T2 - some free hot showers with maybe free liquid soap dispensers, I forget - I've soaked a lovely half-hour or more in there - good as a Turkish bath for washing away your stress.

If you wander around enough you can find various instant noodle type places to try - maybe outside the showers are some huge outsized armchairs which I've been able to curl up in for a snooze ...
