Yesterday marked the 50 anniversary of a significant midair, the collision of a BA aircraft with a Inex-Adria Avioprome aircraft over Zagreb. 1976 Zagreb mid-air collision - Wikipedia. The controller concerned was jailed for two + years despite the cause of the midair being attributed to systems issues including dividing airspace amongst sectors by altitude and staff shortages. He was eventually released after a British legal expert (who lost his daughter in the incident) rallied countries and other ATCs pointing out the controller was a scapegoat .
In the first few days of training as an ATC we watched a video of what happened and its implications, never forgot it.
