Credit Card Offers 50,000 bonus KrisFlyer miles with new HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card

aeroplan status runs annually Jan-Dec. So because your status is guaranteed for 12 months… the way they do it is give you the rest of the year your qualify in AND the year after.

So if you qualify in Dec, you’d get Dec plus the whole year after. But kf you qualify in Jan, you get Jan-Dec AND the whole year after.

So best to qualify early in the year to maximise your status period
so is it possible to sign on , get 2 years and discontinue card after 1 year? I think no
I guess the advantage with AP is get 2 years as you describe but with KF you only get 1 year even if you renew the card?

If you spend $48k, that will then continue your gold on KF for year two, and subsequent years as long as you spend $48k.

There’s an annual fee as well of $499 for years two onwards.

Your status will cease as soon as you cancel the card. Or at least that’s the rules, for some on here it has been instant, for others there’s been a bit of a lag,p. But filling the rules, yes, as soon as you cancel your status gets zero’d out.

$48000 spend what does that convert to for KrisFlyer miles?
First $3000 spend each month gets 1 star alliance point. Anything more than $3000 gets .5 of a point.

Then star alliance points convert to airline points at a rate of .8

Let’s say your spend was exactly equal across the months, that’s $4000 a month spend = 3000 points plus 500 points = 42000 star alliance points. That converts to 33,600 KF points or aeroplan points etc.

Oh I get it now (I think )

In both cases you need to renew the card and pay the annual fee to get y2 but for KF you also need to spend $48k in y2

I have I got that distinction right?
