5% discount on QR awards

On my QR number when I search for flights ADL to Europe I get 5% discount so miles for 2 is 171,000. On my wife's account who has the points there is no discount and cost is 180,000 miles. She currently has ~176,000 points on account so it is an issue, although she can buy top up points. What is the 5% discount for and can it be used an the other account?

Ok, I figured out a I get 5% discount as I have Gold Status with QR, dating back to original QF match. I looked at household account but it seems a hassle and not sure I can use household Avios with a AR reward flight in any case.
