Now your world of Qantas Club membership can take off with a sensational getaway. We're offering you a reward of 40,000 bonus Qantas Points when you join between 12 and 16 November 2015 - so be quick!

To be eligible for this offer, simply join now and pay a total of $895 (inclusive of a $385 join fee~) for a new one year Qantas Club Individual membership^. Two or four year memberships are also available and Qantas Points can also be used to redeem membership.

Might be worth it for anyone who needs a membership:

I asked for a "holiday"/discount or releif from some of the annual fee about a month ago - justified on the basis of more BFOD VA flying and more VA lounges, less availibility/different terminal/shorter opening hours/xmas closures and Jetstarization of routes. Qantas called me back last week and said that they weren't prepared to discount Qantas Club membership any further. I wished them all the best and call me back if their membership fees become more competative.

I expect that unless a lot of people have the lifetime Qantas Club membership - which I doubt - that the numbers are starting to drop off with people watching their discretionary spending more and more. That annual fee is getting more and more difficult to justify. :)

The annual fees have been increasing significantly over the last few years. 40,000 points is generous and may keep the numbers up.

So if my maths and reading of the fine print is correct - renewal for an existing member/existing corporate assiciated member is $510 cash or 75,000 QFF points (neither of which would trigger the bonus 40K QFF points as per the T&Cs)

vs New customer who stumps up the full $895 is eligble for the 40K QFF points.

So totally ineffective offer at getting existing members to renew.

A bit like their 'blink and you miss it' offer for 50% more SC if booked in the next few days that I saw around a while ago.

New customer may not have any points to use.

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall a 40,000 point offering for new members previously - hence why I used the word 'generous'.

I got 40k bonus when I signed up 3 years ago.

Hi guys,

I'm thinking about signing up for the QC, mainly due to the current promotion of 40,000 frequent flyer points.

I'll be traveling to the US during January next year, no other flights booked yet.

I may fly internationally once again (to the UK) mid next year, & potentially interstate once or twice.

Would the membership be worth it?

Topping up 20,000 points currently costs $557.5 from qantas online (so $1,115 for the 40K), so by taking up the QC offer i would be paying over $200 less and also have lounge access (for at least the 1 trip which i have currently booked).

I am by no means a frequent flyer, just see this as a decent opportunity to top up my current frequent flyer point - albeit a somewhat costly way, but since i don't travel all that frequently its a big chunk of points i can add to my already accumulated frequent flyer points.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Welcome to AFF, hasscb.

Whilst you will be getting the points as part of the deal, it is a lot of money. For $895 you could pay for the domestic flights (in economy), and have enough left over to buy food and drinks in the terminal.

Perhaps consider other programs where you can purchase miles to redeem for flights, such as AA or LM.

If your only travel planned for next year is a trip to the US, it is definitely *not* worth paying $895 for a Qantas Club membership. You'd be better off with a 30 day Admirals Club membership (which gives you access to Qantas and American Airlines lounges) for USD99.

My other point is that 20,000 points is definitely not worth over $500. The rate at which Qantas sells points is very high - virtually nobody would pay for top-up points unless they were a few thousand short of a specific reward. In reality, 20,000 points is worth more like $200 (at 1 cent per point).

If you do want to purchase an annual membership, keep in mind that you can save over $200 through the AFF corporate scheme (which is available to paid members).

And if you want to earn a chunk of bonus frequent flyer points, you might want to looking at opening a few credit cards while bonus points are on offer. For example, there's currently a Bankwest card offering 50,000 bonus Qantas points with an annual fee of $160.

Thanks for the quick replies,

I understand that it may not be entirely worth it if i only travel the once, however its more so for the bonus FF points and having the lounge access as a bonus (costly i know, will probably not end up taking the offer).

Most of the credit cards that offer that much bonus FF points tend to be the platinum/higher end cards of which i have no interest in applying for (being a uni student, wouldn't get approved for one anyway).

Are there any other ways that you have used over the years to build up FF points quickly? any other promo's that you have come across etc?

appreciate the feedback

What would you actually spend those 40,000 points on? And I guess the $895 question is - would the value you get from those points be more or less than the cost of the Qantas Club membership? While it is possible to get more than $900 in value from 40K QF points (e.g. upgrades to Business/First class) that would be rare indeed.

Other promos do come and go from time to time. Stick around and I'm sure you'll see them when they pop up.

I think they offered 50,000 last year for new memberships...or something similar.

+1 grab the 30-day Admirals membership for your trip and save yourself $800. Or maybe spend the $800 on a status run over in the US depending on how close you are to SG :)
Hi! Do you know if the Admirals Membership will allow access to Qantas HK lounge when Flying QF? Plan on a few QF trips there, so this may be better value if access is allowed. I may call them later today to confirm.
