WORK has started on the biggest upgrade to Melbourne airport since it was opened in 1970.

The $330 million expansion will add another 25,000 sq m to the international terminal, including a new outbound passenger processing zone and a new Customs and security precinct.

Five new gates will be added and baggage systems upgraded.
...

The renovations will be carried out in a series of staged projects, to ensure minimal disruption to passengers, Mr Woodruff said.

Some great little flash presentations there.
I take there is also a big expansion to the duty free area with a windy path like Sydney

Interesting the aircraft shown in the second pres
A380s in Qantas, Emirates and Singapore colours.
Assorted others in Qantas, AirNZ, Cathay, Jetstar (white scheme) colours

Is this on top of the other recent announcement? I seem to racell another one aside from the SYD one...

Seems a lot of money for only 5 extra gates!
but its not just about the extra gates. Think how many more retail outlets can fit into the terminal, each bringing its own ongoing source of revenue for the airport owners  .
