Hi all,

Need some advice, would a 30 min connection in Mel be doable between two QF flights?

Domestic-Domestic on one ticket.. maybe.

Then again I like to know I'm going to make my connection.

No problems - provided the inbound flight is on time. Might even be able to sneak a few minutes in the QP!

Domestic-domestic is possible, you'll have to be in a hurry and things can easily go wrong though, less than 1 hour is ill advised.

Same ticket wouldn't worry about it unless connecting to last flight of day. Different tickets no way.

I would only do it if travelling on the same ticket, transferring between domestic flights and I only had hand luggage. But I believe 40 minutes is the official minimum connection time?

Thanks!

It would be hand luggage only, QF to QF.. However it would be the last QF flight out of Mel for that night. Perhaps better not to risk it...

Is it by any chance the same plane going to its next destination?

QFd MEL does have 2 piers, one handles gates 1 to 12 and then (what it is, can't place it exactly), but here is the link to the map of Melbourne Airport... http://melbourneairport.com.au/docs/130604-t1-(first-floor)-map.pdf
Hopefully it works out that the connection will be in the same pier!
Wear good shoes. Ones with good traction.
My plane from WLG was late into MEL, and I had to clear immi pronto a few months ago, had to run out from T2 out the auto gate, go up the escalators to T1 dom dep.
Lucky I had a pair of good shoes!
But for you OP, at least you don't have to pass dom sec twice, unlike VA system at MEL.
Is it QF617 and QF777, you can play around tomorrow to see which gate 617 comes into, and then which gate 777 goes out from.
MELairport website does not seem to give past info, on gates, but you should be able to see it historically tomorrow or today by now, at 14.20 to 15.00.

Considering the location of the MEL Qantas Club, that's not very likely (especially if coming in at gate 10).

I think I might stick with my already booked direct VA 332 and sleep on the way home.

Not worth risking missing the connections just to get home a few hours early.
