27th February Big Qantas announcement

I think the announement will be a big yawn.

Jobs lost to come in under 5000 maybe 3000 (What a relief)

A couple of less profitable routes to go completely or to Jetstar.

QF 1/2 retained and remaining slots in LHR leased to EK.

How about new route SYD-EZE-ROM or SYD-JNB-LHR

I wonder if we should have a poll on when the next shutdown will be? Already have one union saying they won't meet with AJ on Friday to discuss results/announcements, and the company who provides casual flight crew for QF has told all their staff to be available for work late in the week.

Hearing rumours today from a colleague whose son works at QF saying that the unions are considering a strike.

Then again, I don't consider that a serious source...

Hm.... if there's a strike, would Jetconnect, QLink, Sunstate etc be affected? Or only Qantas?

Heard news of a possible strike tomorrow due to stress. That'll help a lot.

We should resurrect the ghost of Margaret Thatcher to come over and do some union bashing :).

We have an unusual situation where the CEO actually set a precedent of management calling a snap shut down of the airline. It's game on but there will be no winners.

The problem could be behind the scenes staff and also check in staff as well would be affected.

potential shutdown?? woo-hoo!! I'm gonna buy a couple of fully refundable tickets so i can get some F lounge passes!!

Looking forward to my QF flights over the next few days....

Will be packing spare clothes and bathers for a night in a hotel somewhere no doubt

<snip> in the case of accomodation it's shared kitchen/living, own room in a three bedroom apartment. </snip>

No biggie, but I think this bit varies, possibly by city or available standard of non-hotel accommodation. Just by way of example, I've had the whole EK crew check-in behind me once in HK at the Park Lane in Causeway Bay. Had a chat with the [Aussie] pilot in the lift the next morning. Ordinary hotel though... thanks, company preferred list!

Cheers.

Guess there's not much point checking the BOM web site for the 2 to 3 day forecast outlook for storm fronts on the horizon ..........

I'm pretty sure he means in DXB.

Accommodation at home base, not company hotels on the road.
