Has anyone been able to negotiate successfully with QFF to have the 2,500 points Service Charge for Award Telephone Bookings waived:?:

I may be wrong but from what I have heard on aff if you are plebby silver and above QF have been known to waive this fee.

I thought the fee was there more for people that don't fly frequently but use credit card points instead for award bookings.

mmmm.. Thanks JohnK. wouldn't mind some comments from those that have been succesful.

BTW I will congratulate you in advance for your 500 posting. Perhaps by the time I have pressed the send button, you are laready there?

Nuhhhh.

I am still 1 short. :p

The fee that is waived for higher status FF's is not the assisted booking fee, but the ticket revalidation fee if you make a change after the award has been ticketed.

I have not heard of anyone successfully avoiding the assisted booking service fee of 2500 points per ticket.

There now.

In late April last year I booked a couple of award tickets to the UK. Since then I have rung up and changed the dates/routes 3 times. The last time I moved the return to go via Hong Kong so the kids can visit the mini-Disneyland there. The Qantas rep started mumbling about points and then said "Oh - this was originally booked under the old system, so as a Silver FF there is no charge."

I reckon I'll make the most of it whilst I can and re-jig the flights a few more times for the hell of it!

Cheers,

AC

Are you implying that there has been a change to the 2,500 points waiver on changes?

Can anyone confirm? I'm currently Gold (Platinum in 120 more SCs) and will be booking my RTW trip for April 2007 in April-ish 2006. The ability to make some willy-nilly changes at no cost is important to me.

Regards
Daniel

I was charged the assisted booking fee of 2.5K points with a recent QF Award (using AA metal MIA/MBJ). No thoughts of waiver were entered into by CSA. I asked, but she smiled and said "No, unfortunately even for our Plat members, we can't waive this fee".

Like others, I've been able to waive other fees they have tried to charge me.

Changed some award tickets yesterday. I am QF SG.

First time around (it was one of those days) changed the day of the outbound flights (SYD-PER) from Monday to Saturday. The rep mentioned something about points, then a coment about how they were booked on the old system, then said it was all done, and there was no points charge as I was SG.

Rung back 30 mins later and changed the flights from SYD-PER to BNE-PER (via MEL, like I said, one of those days) still on the Saturday. Put on hold while rep checked with supervisor, then charged extra $78 tax an 10000 points (2 tickets).

I suggested that the first change I made didn't incure any charge and was told that was because it was only a change of date, keeping orininal flight path (although different flight numbers on the SYD-PER leg), but now I had changed the routing, so would incure 5000 points per ticket, plus the extra "taxes", which was a combination of the increase in "tax" (ie fuel rort, unless the GST has changed recently?) as well as adding another landing (although this was the only routing available).

I think I should clarify that the 2,500 point charge I was woried about was for changing the DATE of a flight but not the route or people travelling.

For my situation, I know that myself and my wife are travelling and probably what cities but the DATES need to be flexible in case some friends say that they want to meet us in Eurpoe and if we can shift a few days here and there.

I accept that I will be hit with a point and/or $ charge due to taxes on a routing/flight number/person name change.

With this in mind, if I changed the DATE of an AA flight, will I be charged the 2,500 points as I will be Plat by then. I know that if it was a QF flight i would be fine but other airlines may make up different rules.

Daniel

Unless you are blind (no... too many HP's in the QP does not qualify) and have 'visually impaired' noted in your profile.

After first reading this I asked a friend of mine who is blind and flys quite a bit how he went with this as it could be discriminatory.

He said his profile is noted and he makes all ff bookings by 'phone. He does have a computer which speaks but said it was just too hard to navigate the booking system.

It can be waived!

This is the difference between a revalidation fee (2500 points that is waived for high status members) and a re-issue fee (5000 points and not waived).

Date and time changes do not require the ticket to be re-issued and hence only the revalidation fee. Any route change or name change requires the ticket to be re-issued and that is going to cost 5000 points per re-issue.

Even though these changes need to be done on the phone, they do not incur the 2500 point assisted booking fee. That is only charged if the original booking was assisted by an agent.
