Hi,

My close friend will be 25 SC short of getting Platinum for the first time in his life and he is keen to obtain it as he loves the F lounge and only gets in when he flies with me.
Anyway what is his easiest option to get those 25SC's cheap. I have a few options ot run past the estmeed panel of fellow travelers here for opinion.

1. MEL-CBR-SYD-MEL return all on the same day if booked correctly. That option would cost about $350 or about 37,000 points if you use Points only and zero dollars. You would also earn 3000pts.
2. MEL-CBR-SYD-MEL return all on the same day if booked correctly using Any Seat Awards will cost you about 34,900 points and no cash and earn 30SC.
3. MEL-BNE-MEL return all on the same day. That option will cost about $310 or about 35000 points if using points or a combination of points plus cash is in between. This will earn you 30SC and as Gold you would earn about 2400pts.
4. MEL-BEN-MEL return all on the same day. This option as an any seat award will cost you about 30,500pts and zero cash. It will also earn you 2,400pts and 30SC.

TheBasic rule is that he has to leave from MEL and it has to be done prior to end of Aug but has to be done before 26th July as after that I have him overseas for work.
I loI look forward to comments.

i think you have summarised the position very well.

Look at CBR-SYD-HBA-SYD-CBR run in J any seat, for around 40k point to earn 200 SC's, you will need to get up to CBR and back. Best value i can see.

cheers

Those are close to the options as for quickest and easiest, although you can cut out / shorten one sector by flying it in J (i.e. for an Any Seat Award). The economics are pretty close to what you've got, except a J short sector (e.g. MEL-CBR or MEL-SYD) is 40 SC, which means it is in the bag and one sector can be flown in J. (Note that the minimum points cost for a short (zone 1) return Any Seat with one Y and one J sector is 24,000 points).

Good luck to your friend. Getting WP is an achievement, retaining it is a commitment. ;)

I would suggest a Saturday afternoon StarClass on JQ35; $340. 40SC and 1250 and 40 SC's. Fly up Saturday morning on any MEL-SYD flight in any way you care to.

Travel with him and guest him into the SYD Flounge for lunch. :p (If you do this, make sure you arrive in SYD before check-in opens at 12:15pm)

You can do a MEL-ADL return J one way and Y return for 31k points and 50 SC's. better value than the multi sector legs for SC earn

But not as good as JQ to SYD as it comes out close to half the price.

sorry i should have pointed out that mind was based on using an ASA, not paying cash

Interestingly the any seat part of ASA is something of a lie, I was curious to see what an ASA on JQ Starclass was and surprise surprise, JQ35 does not show :!: I would expect it to be a poor way of burning points compared to it being a good way of earning points.

#4 as simplest is often the best (plus have a day out in Brisvegas - the weather is better at this time of year. Well, all times of year actually.:p)

If you want shorter/easier, J MEL-SYD-MEL or J one way, Y the other would be the way to go (pending availability).
