Thanks for sharing. :) What is the usual classic flight reward MEL - SYD? I tried to book and I'm sure it didn't include any discount.

Yes it seems to be true. SYD-LHR on QF1 on Aug 11 is 45000pts (and only $264.42). Only applies to QF operated flights.

Definitely true.

Only 21,000 QFF points to BKK/SIN/HKG. If only I could find a QF flight on 24/25/26/27 September to those cities.

Once you have selected the flight, the following message will appear under the total points if it is within the eligible travel period:
"Includes promotion discount"

For QF domestic, it often works out better value on a lot of flights to fly Virgin. Virgin flights have fewer taxes on redemptions and I've noticed they have really cut their prices of late. I was looking at $99 SYD-MEL on VA. Qantas was 6,000+$35 ($130 paid ticket). I prefer Qantas of course, but I will fly VA on short flights.

Have any of WP/P1 AFFers had any success in past promotions with Y seats getting released during promos like this? I'm mid-planning for travel in September that this would suit perfectly, but no preferred options when I need to fly. I've had domestic Y & J seats released before, but not during these promos.

Cheers,
Matt.

I've answered my own question with a call to the QFF Premium Desk. They were happy to check, but the period where I am travelling has no fares in the right buckets for making a request... For an [international?] Y release, we'd be looking for some availability in 'Q' or 'O', if that helps others. EF tells me all the flights I'm looking at have neither :(

Cheers,
Matt.

Lol I couldn't even find a return from SIN in April :( Plenty of Ek flights though which is no help. With the stupid taxes & fees I am better off booking a J with points or just buy a Y ticket for cash.

Just some guidance, you should never book a return from SIN to Australia, because of the "QF ticket outside Australia" surcharge. If you must, book it as two one way tickets. Same general rule applies to other destinations in Asia (except MNL & HKG) and US.

For example, the taxes (in AUD) on SIN-MEL-SIN economy award ticket are $460, on SIN-MEL + MEL-SIN separate tickets $375. On MEL-SIN-MEL they are $284.

Not sure what options we have if we want to use points as we aren't flying over so we are stuck with a one way trip. Downside to not flying I guess?

Dare I say it, depends on route, but sometimes you have to suck it up and use Jetstar. When you can get a Jetstar fare with seat and luggage for $170 and QF want $220 + 28000 pts, and given that $40 pays for some meals/drinks and IFE, you do have to ask if it is worth paying 28,000 (or in the context of this promo 21,000 pts) , just to fly QF. This is where SQ moving to abolish their fuel surcharges has had some benefits, shame QF don't follow suit.

If I was flying alone I would consider the Jetstar path but with the wife and kids the cost savings isn't enough to cover the divorce...... I got the message pretty clear last time no more international Jetstar

It is a shame one way flights back are so expensive :(

was checking out flights to the USA for August today and I don't know if it's a bug on the qantas site but the taxes for a one-way USA to AUS are more than taxes for AUS-USA RETURN! How is that even possible!?

Does the 25% discount apply to the 140,000 points round the world Oneworld ticket? That would make it 105,000 points which is quite tempting.
