Can you do the less than 24 hour after booking cancellation online?

Booked dates that I then realised I can't do.

I don't want to wait on the phone for over an hour.

Is there a 24h cancellation policy? I thought the policy was for until midnight the day of the booking and then only to change specific elements of your booking without a change or service fee, not cancel outright.

Oh O.K. That's a bit annoying then. Might have changed to a cheaper flight. Will see what they say when I eventually get through.

Been on the phone waiting for QF to pick up for over 2 hours... Keep on telling me they will be with me soon...

@eminere not just specific changes to booking but you can also cancel free of charge up until midnight if you've changed your mind.

It is called a "Same Day no Mistake policy".

Changing your mind isn't one of the options.

Given the call centre meltdown last night they will probably honour it today.

Got through to them after a little over 3 hours last night.

Interesting, where does it say that on the page linked to by @Vic?

Reading the T&C's I don't believe that is the case.

He might be exceptionally lucky if he gets an operator that doesn't know the rules either, but that would be like winning the local chook raffle.

You can't cancel, unless it's a flight originating from the US AFAIK.
That's what I thought so too. And yes, the exception for US flights applies due to DOT regulations mandating so.

I changed to a trip that was more expensive than what was originally booked.

Well actually of course you can cancel. Here is the conversation with Qantas - I made a mistake in booking, I rebooked, can you please cancel the mistake booking.

Sure the idea is to change the original booking, but at the end of the day if I've removed that option by making a second correct booking then cancelation is the only remaining option.

Probably possible if you lie about it, and claim to have made a mistake.

I may be wrong (often am) but my understanding is US has a 24 hour rule and Australia has free change/cancellation up to midnight Sydney time. Certainly been my experience.
