As part of my oneworld 280k award I also have a 22 hour overnight stop in DOH doing KUL-DOH-WAW, arriving around 11am and departing the next day at 9am. I figured it would be a good way to see Doha (never been to the Middle East before) without wasting one of my 5 permissible stopovers.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Also I'm planning on showering when I land, then going back in the evening (perhaps post-dinner) to sleep in the lounge (OWE travelling QR J). Is that feasible? Is there an arrivals lounge of some kind at the new DOH?

Some places of interest are:

The Islamic museum of art
Souq Waqif (awesome food)
Three shopping centres: Doha city centre, Villaggio and Landmark
Katara and the pearl.

I'll update if I can think of anything else later...

I would book a hotel if I were you, maybe the Oryx Rotana which is close to the old airport (still not too far from the new one).

Should I just pay to take taxis between each place or should I sign up for some kind of day tour?

The only thing really out of the way is The Pearl/Katara and you can give it a miss if you like. Taxi's are cheap and plentiful.
