Last week I booked two EK F seats using the remains of my QF points. 2F seats JFK-DXB and it cost me 252,000 + US$1500 taxes.

The same flight, same date 06AUG, as a revenue ticket on emirates.com reveals a total cost of US$39,536 + US$1500 taxes.

Using AUD$1 = US$0.78, then US$39,536 = $50,687

Thus, $50,687 / 252,000 = $0.2011 / per point

I think that's awesome value ;) :D :)

So big thanks to Qantas FFP! Now I need to find a way to rebuild my depleted points balance.

Ridiculous !!
I'm usually happy to get 5c per point !

Just a comparison using the best of my knowledge (and please correct me if my numbers are inaccurate) with using Alaskan for the same redemption:

Booking a JFK-DXB non-stop flight on EK using Alaska Mileage plan costs (per pax) 90,000 miles plus $20 (USD) in taxes/fees.

When they have a 40% mileage purchase bonus on, the CPM is 2.1 (USD).

2 Pax would cost 180,000 miles plus $40 in taxes/fees. 180k @ 2.1CPM = $3780 + $40 = $3820 USD.

$3820 USD = $4900 AUD.

Considering you paid $1500 USD in taxes = $1925 AUD. Your points got you a value of $2975 AUD.

252,000 points gave you $2975 AUD.

1 QF point was worth 1.18 cent.

By the same logic if one had redeemed 180,000 Alaskan miles for this promotion and compared to retail value, each AS mile was worth more than 28 cents.

Inflated price because you are quoting a one way fare.

True, ex-USA is the only instance that EK F awards can be had through Alaskan and should have at least been considered here.

But this is a good reminder that often the best value redemption is one way , given the comparative cash fare. In any case it's great value.

Yes exactly why I made the comparison. I know I would rather buy the Alaskan miles and redeem that way. Get some points for buying the miles as well. $1925 in fuel fines is simply preposterous.

Yes, but this now seems to be an old problem on QF.

A friend of mine booked a one way award to HNL on QF and paid cash back. I was shocked and said, that's a terrible idea. No that you display awards and revenue fares on the same page this issue no longer occurs when combining one way awards. Would you believe a genuine enhancement?

Now don't ruin my thunder now ;) :) I have had looks at Alaskan in the past for EK F as I had earned some AS points flying KE F BKK-ICN-LAX return. But given I needed to top up points and I don't want to outlay any cash on points, seemed very logical from my end to just pay using QF points.

That is true, but with all figures, use the best ones to 'enhance' your point / value ;)

If I paid for a revenue ticket though, I always compare o/w and rtns, sometimes I have thrown away the return sector purely because it was much cheaper to buy the return.

Sounds look good value (Alaskan not withstanding). Although I always value points at what I would be willing to pay, not what the airline wants to charge me! Often they are one in the same, but sometimes they are not.

Absolutely true, if you wouldn't actually pay what they are asking (as I wouldn't in this case) then that's not their value, its their cost. Value and cost are not one and the same.
