I should have looked that up myself. The England board locks in things a lot earlier than the BBCI (India) does where you don't even know venues weeks out from the World Cup.
No Test match for Headingly (Leeds) - conceding the Stokes/Botham factor already. England rattled.

The Rose Bowl in Southampton is a relatively new ground but hosted its first Test in 2011 and has hosted about 5 more since then. Last used for the India vs NZ WTC final due to it being a biosecure venue during Covid.
It's no long the Ageas Bowl either, another sponsor with an unpronounceable looking name "Utlilia" Bowl.
But this will be the first time they've hosted an Ashes Test.
Cardiff (Sophia Gardens) hosted one Test in 2009. Not sure if Durham (Chester-le-Street) has has an Ashes Test, a quick Google will tell me I guess.

With me retiring mid 2026 (really), MrsK and I will embark on the first of our post-retirement grande tours. The second half of 2026 will be spent on getting those few odd jobs finished off around home, but we're thinking kicking off six months in Europe in 2027 - 3 months in Italy and 3 months in Spain. Just taking it easy, using a place as a base for 2 or so weeks, then onto a new location, and so on.
And lots of road trips here in Australia, with the car loaded up and hopping around country motels and cabins in caravan parks. MrsK hasn't had the opportunity to travel to a lot of regional and rural Australia like I have, so there's lots to see.
MissK is currently on a year working holiday visa with her boyfriend in Italy, and they are thinking of going to France for to do the same for 12 months. I've suggested she should check out Spain too.

The itinerary map looks like Exodus @JohnM ? Been looking on and off at Madagascar myself over the past year but haven’t sorted one out yet.

I’ve just started looking at a private trip in Gansu province in western China. The Chinese leg of the silk Road. Lots of temples, the Western extent of the great Wall and this pretty amazing place that I hadn’t heard of until recently.

2027 seems so far away, but I know it'll be here before I know it. Likely another flight sim adventure to Europe if the one we're doing next month is good. If that does firm up, we might do Spain and Portugal. Or another river cruise if the mini one we're doing confirms I'm good on river boats (ocean boats are a no go for me).

Yes, 2027 is a long way off, and I have no particular plans for 2027. At least I will be QF WP, and have reached a position where I can't find anywhere I want to go in Europe, apart from Italy (and maybe Greece), which I've visited many times.

So I have no idea where I will be going next year, only knowing where I won't be going, such as the Americas or Middle East. So it's probably the UK (how can I not go with my siblings there) and Italy and perhaps Greece. Of course there's the 2 Chinas and maybe Thailand (perhaps Chiang Rai) as a starter.

Wife and I have just started talking about a trip to Croatia in 2027 just as peak season winds up over there, possibly September'ish. We want to take our two boys over, and my Mum is also planning on going so we think it'd be a special trip for all if we can make it happen! Haven't been back there since 2016 so super keen.

I mentioned above in the Ashes post how BCCI (Indian cricket board of control) always leaves the dates and venues for tours of India until very late in the piece. Well they have surprised us all with announcing them a good ten months in advance.

Chennai (former Madras) is the only really traditional ground being used. Nagpur has been used in more recent tours and with the Ahmedabad stadium named after Modi, it's a lock for each tour - plus it's a very big ground. The other two venues are more obscure. However, Australia did play at Ranchi in 2017. Guwahati is a new one for me though. It's only hosted one Test before. It's in Assam, famous for tea (like so many other regions).
The famous grounds like Eden Gardens, Kolkata; Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), and Mumbai all miss out.
The lovely location of Dharamshala with its views of the Himalayas, also misses out. If I were to make a trip to India for cricket I'd love to go to a few of the old traditional grounds.

So with other half's current health issues seemingly not going to require surgery it looks like we can get travel insurance for him whoohoo. So Nov/Dec four to five weeks in United kingdom for his last hurrah for travelling (mainly issues with which countries he can get travel insurance but also mobility is a bit of an issue)

So have worked out the places we want to stay at seem to have decent sales for accommodation in January (always have to be cancellable ) so those are likely to be booked before the flights.

We both love the travel by train around so looking forward to that and of course seeing all the various Xmas decorations. I may duck over to Paris for a day and abandon said husband lol
