2026 travel plans

Overnight ... intrigued ....
Unless it's changed since I did it ...... 2 ? years ago, it's a very, very old soviet era train. The time you're planning to go is quite warm, so just consider no aircon and each cabin on there (regardless of class!) has a very small window. You can imagine what that does for temperatures and airflow! Put it this way, Mrs FB and I could not wait to run off that train. There's slightly more (not much) air blowing through if you stand in the corridor. Some people did that for a large part of the journey..... 🥵🥵 Possibly the window doesn't open, hmm, I can't remember now!

Since I'm coughing up for a wedding and helping out other child with buying a unit, this year has to downgraded somewhat.
Aprilish - 2 week road trip to Bundaberg region to include Lady Elliott snorkel-fest.
Oct - Fly to Adl for few days, jump on The Ghan to Asp. Few days in the red centre to see the rock etc. The Ghan again to Drw. Few days to see Kakadu and Arnhem Land. Fly home to Sunshine Coast.

I might finally have something to put in this thread, in a few weeks ... my wife stayed up 'til 2am obtaining tickets for her favourite band in London & Brussels some time around the middle of the year which I've not been told yet ... so I'll be searching for tickets & accommodation & starting to put together a real itinerary (because I have little interest in said band - certainly not to the point of adding any limitations to her ticket-availability by needing to find two seats together) soon!
Progress!

We now have a mid June ticket to Zurich and an early/mid July ticket home from London.
My wife has some Swiss Francs which are old & can be cashed-in despite being expired but only at a specific bank in Zurich, and hadn’t happened to be going anywhere via Zurich for work prior to giving her employer the bird. It’s a reasonable amount, so since we were going to Europe anyway may as well have a look at Zurich, plus we’ve been wanting to go to Lausanne for a while.
Then we need to be in Brussels for the night of 2nd July and London the 4th.
So I reckon I’ve got about a week to organise between Lausanne & Brussels; I’m thinking probably 2 or 3 cities and train in between, I don’t think it’s worth the hassle of finding parking to rent a car (plus I’m not very good at just finding stuff to do unplanned while driving through places & from experience the French road system doesn’t encourage confused foreigners to get anywhere off the autoroutes).
