2026 F1 Thread

Well I can't say I saw the Ferrari/ AV geek crossover on my 2026 bingo list!

Disappointed I didn't get tickets to Melbourne with these shenanigans going on!
For those who haven't seen it....

Ferrari flap definity interesting. But must be very close to the limit of 400ms for flap deployment, whereas other systems would be a lot quicker.

What happens to the aero as it relatively slowly flips would be interesting.

I haven't seen the full speed replay of this yet, but according to Nikolas Tombazis (FIA's Technical Director), the implementation is legal. And even if deployment is slower, any losses could be theoretically regained courtesy of the induced lift leading to higher top speeds. Very interesting...

Not sure of the impact on deployment, but certainly when it's returning to position at the end of a straight, it will briefly operate as an airbrake which may reduce demand on the brakes themselves. Remains to be seen whether this gives Ferrari any advantage in terms of dive-bombing other cars into the braking zone, or indeed out-dragging cars along the straights.

Between this and the smaller turbo they're reportedly running, I'd love to think that Ferrari has stolen a march on other teams in a few areas of the new technical and engine regs. But as a long-suffering Ferrari fan, I'm not wanting to exhaust all of my "Hopium" before the season has begun 😜

This is why I don’t read any of the articles from The Race:

Ok. Travel Chaos. I actually think Oz will be cancelled. Most teams and cars I presume are in Bahrain still. 2x days of wet weather tyre tests already cancelled.

F1 in chaos as rockets derail plans to travel to Australia for first race https://www.news.com.au/sport/motor...e/news-story/c9b96a3a6245d41dd4699d1379e9d3cd
I reckon the Oz GP will carry on as planned. Air freight should have already begun arriving - if not already arrived - this weekend, and tonnes of equipment would have been en-route via sea freight long before now. There may be some disruption to team personnel arriving on schedule and there may be some disruption to the latest and greatest components arriving to plan, but teams historically aim to have cars and equipment in place at the circuit by Monday of the GP week (if not earlier). I expect the team garages will begin assembly from first thing tomorrow morning (as is usual) and cars will be built and made ready for scrutineering in the days leading up to FP1.

It's old, but this article gives some insight as to how things generally work....

As for the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian GPs? They're more than a month away and I suspect they'll go ahead at this point in time.

I found this season of DtoS a yawn - stopped after Ep 4 (the McLaren one) which supposedly was all about the ‘fairness’ of Papaya Rules. When that ten sec penalty at Silverstone handed Lando victory Oscar asked to swap back as he was way ahead. Nope. Slow pit stop later for Lando (give it back Oscar!)

The constant chopping and changing each episode is unsatisfying - and incomplete.

And a whole episode on Briatore - face palm emoji times ten to the power of six….
Though watching Horner booed was satisfying there was no context whilst Horner mansplained that this was because people hate winners…🤦‍♀️

DTS got me into F1 - job done… now I will sashay away

Can’t wait till the weekend at Albert Park up close to the action

Basic equipment (both air and sea) will have already arrived.

Seems was only mule cars in Bahrain, so cancellation of wet testing won't impact the cars, but presumably some key staff and some equipment in Bahrain that need to get out Mon/Tue.

Cars presumably coming from the factories, mostly UK.

Bahrain might be in danger but it really depends on how things happen. Right now we don't know enough. Really depends on how long the fighting will go for.

I suspect if its still an ongoing threat in a couple of weeks, Bahrain will get cancelled.
