2025 F1 Thread

And Crofty and Martin are still saying Lando can catch up if they run a few more laps. Soooo tiresome those two and whats with Zak looking a picture of abject unrelieved misery🤷‍♀️
Well, Crofty and Martin are playing to a British audience, so I guess they need to throw them a few scraps of hope ;)

As for Zak? I thought he looked quite happy with PIA. Maybe he's just doing his best to continue with the perception of impartiality. It will become harder as we go deeper into the season.

I think Zak is happy as long as papaya is winning and it doesn't matter as much which child is winning.

I just watched Ted's Notebook, it was too late last night, it seems he agrees with me anyway about using the wets or else dont bring them.

I get the visibility safety angle but these guys are paid the big bucks...
When the WETS aquaplane then stop the race.
There is no rule saying they have to drive at the usual speed and ram each other like Hadjar did.
The rolling start was a sensible decision.

How good was Nico on the grid asking the real questions.

With Jos - about Horner - NOW you're quiet! And the look on Jos's face,

With BOT - about Cadillac - I cant hear you...with a big smile.

How to get answers with no answers...

Think Brundle and other Sky's are getting scared of upsetting certain people

I still think Mclaren backed the wrong person for the title. It has to be PIA, not NOR. Perhaps PIA's longer contract said what is ......... unsaid?

I don't think they "backed" anyone this year per se. I don't think there really was any real obvious favouritism this year like there was last year.

Whoever is the lead car tended to get preferential treatment in terms of stops. Like NOR lost a huge chunk of time this race because they decided they couldn't double stack.

They publicly said though they're backing NOR?

I don't mind the Sky team but you do have to put up with a lot of British bias. You could argue they are playing to their primary audience I guess. What is clear from time-to-time is that different presenters have different relationships with drivers/team members outside of the track which potentially inhibits them from asking the tough questions. Rosberg clearly will go there, when he was doing YouTube content he was putting out controversial opinions as well. Same for Villeneuve - they (and we) need those guys to go a bit feral to make it entertaining. Think back to Herbert - he was so pro-British he could have formed Team Brexit. Which is likely why he isn't on Sky now, they needed to mix it up

Love Rosberg - he was happy to double down that Max should have been black flagged when he played dodgems with George whilst a lot of pearl clutching went on.

I enjoy some of Rosberg's insights and some of the questions he asks, but he is also a constant reminder of why he was never a favourite in the paddock amongst the other drivers. I also think he likes the sound of his own voice a bit too much sometimes. Often comes across as trying way too hard to command the respect he's owed as a F1 Champion, whilst knowing he'll never be held in the same esteem as a Hamilton, Vettel, Mansell, Prost etc etc. As for Villeneuve? Well he's certainly never short of an opinion (for better or worse)...

To be honest, whilst neither became a F1 WDC, I still feel that Brundle and in particular, Ant Davidson, generally do a great job of navigating the fine line of sharing an unbiased or unpopular opinion whilst still managing to not burn bridges with drivers and team officials. Sure, Brundle does need to play to the British audience in commentary, but he's also not afraid to call out a driver's conduct on track or a team's media spin. He just manages to do it more diplomatically than others. IMHO though, Ant is the clear and obvious replacement for Brundle when he eventually decides to hang up the microphone.

Karun has admittedly grown on me as well. Never used to like the guy, but have really come to appreciate him as a real student of the sport - potentially only rivalled in his encyclopaedic knowledge of F1 by Seb Vettel these days. Bernie has also been a great addition to the broadcast team.

Brundle's son can replace him...they sound the same.

Rosberg, Villenueve and Danica....one should be on each event to take the heat for the hard questions and to even out the Pro British bias.

While I like the pre-amble show, it does drag out a lot especially with Naomi, Simon and Natalie droning on endlessly about bugger all....admittedly the 90 minute FIA delay this week made me sicker of them that the usual hour or so we get. Probably 20 minutes plus gridwalk should be enough to explain whats changed since the last race.

Ted's 30 minute Notebook wrapup is just right I think.

Doesn't he just!!! Martin will never be able to disown him 🤣

The only reason I can imagine that Zak would rather NOR win is that NOR was a product of their driving academy. But on the other hand, if PIA were to win it, then it's a very astute business decision from Zak and team to snaffle PIA's signature and replace RIC when they did. Either way, I'm sure he'll be happy.

Oh, I'm sure that's the reason, Lando has done the hard yards there, for years...not really reputationed with having any nous on car development input though.
Getting Oscar was astute, on both sides....not sure they'd have imagined it going so well. The Norris Era isnt as upon us as we were told by Zak.
I'm glad Oscar has Webber in his corner keeping an eye on things, on track and on contract.

Considering he is interviewed in Europe most of the time, by SKY, he may just be pandering to the audience. Lets hear him say that in MEL next year...

But a one-two in the drivers and the constructors is what he should end up with this year...cant imagine him (or the shareholders) caring too much what the order is.

haha....I'm sure deep down (or shallow down), he has a preference...even if subconscious :)

On another note, I'm surprised Lando's mum isnt listed on the Drivers leaderboard...more camera coverage than 19 of the drivers 😝

Less than 12months ago they were being hammered, a defending themselves for, the same thing. Even Newey called it out.

Would be interesting if Fox/Kayo gave the option of the international or even US feed rather than Sky.
The race vision is the same no matter which feed you take. It's provided by F1 Media team out of a facility in England.

I believe the US takes the SKY commentary. Their pre/post coverage might be different but would be full of commercial breaks.

Listening to some of the F1 World commentary on YouTube, I definately prefer the depth of knowledge on SKY despite the British bais discussed earlier.
