Yep. Horrible strategy call by McLaren.
Oscar's stop - kept him out instead of double stacking and potentially losing one place to Ham. Instead lose 20secs and three places
Norris stop timing - probably 50/50 and suspect Ham would have just done the opposite.
Norris tyres. Horrible. Should have gone onto fresh mediums.

Fantastic race today - well worth staying up for that!! As they say, "....just add water."
Indeed, just add water! It was a dud move by Ferrari to get LeClerc in so early onto intermediates. But I'm also surprised we didn't see the opposite of some gung-ho driver trying to stay out there on slicks.

Where's Jean Alesi when you need him...

Certainly McLaren looking after their no 1 driver at Oscars expense

Will be interested to hear more about what was happening with Daniel today... seemed to be in no man's land for much of that race.
Yuki only did marginally better than RIC up 3 places from Starting position, compared to only up 2 places for RIC; especially given the RUS DNF. On the broadcast it was mentioned that RIC’s car had an old power unit fitted before the race. PER didn’t improve much from the back of grid start.

To be fair, I think they did run the numbers ahead of that call. I think the track degradation caught them by surprise as they were anticipating it’d be mostly ok for one extra lap. Hindsight is always 20/20.

True. Had forgotten about the emergency rebuild ahead of the race - definitely wouldn’t have helped. Reading Dan’s comments this morning…

“Hopefully there’s a big hole in my car that I haven’t see yet, and that’s the reason why we’re really slow.

“We honestly, just as a team, for sure we struggle here.

“Looking at the Williams at the end on that stint, and Sargeant pulled away from me and I believe came and passed Tsunoda.

“Yuki got a point, he did well, but I think as a team we weren’t very competitive this weekend.”

The other talking point was PER. What an atrocious weekend?! I know he was massively sacrificed yesterday to provide tyre data for VER, but still… he just never looked quick during the race, even just dealing with the cars around him. Borrowed time me thinks…

Interesting. What a rubbish trailer, tells you nothing about it and certainly doesn't entice you to want to watch it.
It's a teaser trailer and I think its purpose was to show fans that they're trying to give viewers the same feeling of authenticity and thrill-a-minute action that director, Joseph Kosinski, and producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, applied to the most recent Top Gun film. Apparently, the cars used in the film have 15 camera mounts in them that have been designed with Mercedes and Sony. They're also an evolution compared to those the team used in Top Gun: Maverick as they’re smaller and can pan and focus (which the cameras inside the Top Gun jets couldn’t do).

The plot itself is already broadly known, namely being the story of a former racing driver named Sonny Hayes (Pitt), who had a bad crash in the 1990s and retired from the pinnacle of motorsports and moved onto plying his trade in other categories. That is, of course, until his friend Ruben (Javier Bardem), the owner of the APX F1 Team, asks him to mentor a young driver, Joshua (Damson Idris).

So yeah... it's basically Top Gun: Maverick, but set in the world of F1 (and sans Tom Cruise). And this is why they need to make it feel as authentic as possible for fans of the sport.

During the post race driver interview with Lando Norris, you could see them filming several takes of Pitt and Idris in the background walking up to be “ interviewed “ by the reporters.
In his pit report Ted Kravitz was ridiculing the films unimaginative title F1.

Reportedly Perez's contract has a termination clause if he is more than 100 points behind Max at the midway point (2 races away).
Perez is currently 137 points down.

Some sites now suggesting Lawson might be promoted straight to the main seat.

Did you get the impression that Norris is just mightily p**sed off by his decisions (and luck) at the moment. A bit like Ferrari last year, he has a quick car but strategy is just beating him now.
Yes NOR seemed thoroughly disheartened. Radio conversations with his engineer about soft or medium tyres replacing the inters were too indecisive according to Brundle.
As for Ferraris strategy being poor last year….they're being equally dismal this year too.

Ted's complaining about the title was funny...but accurate.
"They dont call Cool Runnings, Sledding, They dont call Bend it like Beckham, Football"

Are we not gonna talk about Danica and the Lizard People?
I liked her, she was not afraid to bag drivers if they mess up, like ROS does.
The others think up any excuse they can for HAM, NOR and RUS.
Yes, I know SKY is British....

She is taking a break and will be back in Austin.

I liked the village people, but the lizard people is all too real in an American context!

No surprises at all that RBR has a termination clause. They’d be stupid not to have one. As for Lawson being promoted straight into the main team… whilst I wouldn’t be surprised if they do try that, recent history (i.e. Gasly, Albon) should give them pause for thought. Lawson is a talented young driver - maybe not quite “Piastri” talented at this stage, but talented nonetheless - but I’d hate for RBR to burn yet another young driver before they had a chance to properly establish themselves in the category.

Marko has been touting either Lawson or (surprisingly) Tsunoda for the seat if Perez doesn’t fix his form slump, but even though it may not be a long term play, I can’t help but feel that RBR has a Daniel-shaped hole in their driver lineup that could be filled by a certain “Daniel” who’s currently in the fold. Say what you will about him, but he has shown over the years that with a good car under him, he’ll get results. We shouldn’t forget that he dragged Renault to podiums they didn’t deserve after they finally gave him something with which to fight. He scored McLaren’s only win when they had an average car and the opportunity presented. He may have been outshone by Tsunoda for the first part of this season, but they are more even now and to be fair, I suspect the RBs would be worse off if not for the input he’s given to the design and engineering team. Even Yuki readily acknowledges that. If RBR are serious about salvaging the Constructors’ Championship, they really do need to decide whether they want to gamble on a rookie or place trust in an experienced hand. And if they went with Ricciardo and the results aren’t there, then they can easily switch to Lawson or Tsunoda.

Agree , not a lot to lose by offering RIC one last opportunity to drive a RBR car. If RIC doesn’t live up to expectations, it’s probably the end of the F1 road for him.

Except the Mexican money...put PER in Daniels car...that may keep the cash coming.
PER is usually down 15th or so anyway.
See how they do, with a switcheroo....

Then fire both and hire Sainz in 2026 like they wanted to all along.
