2023 Travel Plans

Last year I was in Paris in Nov for my birthday.
This year I was planning to likely visit Stockholm/Helsinki around early Oct but this is now on the cards for 2024.
With the QF reward seat release recently I managed to score a QF F reward on QF1 Syd to Sin on my actual birthday this year 😃
So this year I will be flying QF1 in F on my birthday, 3 nights in Singapore and flying back in J on QF82.
Spending some time in the Qantas First lounge in Singapore (thanks to Finnair Platinum status that finishes at the end of Nov this year) & maybe a visit to the Qatar premium lounge as well.

Booked SYD-SIN-CPH-KEF for May 2023. Finally getting to Iceland, my dream of over 30 years. When I was in Europe as a backpacker around 1990 I so wanted to go but the airfares were prohibitive and the currency was so strong that I would've been broke on arrival. Worth the wait! Going to enjoy Copenhagen again after all these years too.
Did you get to Iceland? What month?

It says May in their OP.
Oops so it does. Think I’ve been cruising this site too long today, trying to decide on a January trip.

Our travel 2023
Japan for 3 weeks over Christmas …was fabulous
Adelaide for Sting concert …. also fabulous
South Australia including Clare, Adelaide and Middleton for beach time … loved it all
New Zealand, Christchurch, in April-May for family 60th wedding anniversary
Lufthansa flight package to USA, UK, Malaga, Frankfurt, USA and home from Sept to Nov
NZ in Nov

Just need to decide on a January trip to make use of the QF double offer.

Iceland is amazing and definitely worth a visit, but probably not in January. Too dark and cold!

Feeling at a loss having just arrived back from an excellent trip to Japan and now not having any travel plans at all for the rest of 2023. I must think about some options and then jump on them if there are sales, award seat releases or DSC offers sometime in the remainder of the year.
Well now I have travel plans! Using DSC I will be visitng Japan again in Jan/Feb 2024. With the SC roll over expected as my final bit of status support, this alone is enough to maintain my WP. I know the travel isn't until 2024, but I will be planning the travel in 2023, so I put it in this thread to make me feel like I will be going somewhere exciting this year even though I'm not 😆
😆

We are now planning for a November/December trip to visit some of the Christmas Markets in Germany. We currently intend to visit Nuremberg & Dresden plus hopefully a few more. In order to avoid the 'Australia Tax' and the 'Perth Tax' in particular we are thinking about using Krisflyer points to get us to KL and then possibly China Airlines to Frankfurt. Last year we paid $12,800 for 2 in J on SQ flying into Frankfurt and out of Munich from Perth. This year the same flight is around $18,800. QR would be satisfied with $19,900. The legs from KL to/from Frankfurt on China Airlines in a J class that looks excellent on YouTube cost about $7,800.

In 2018 we paid around $7,400 for the two of us to fly Singapore/Barcelona/Doha/Perth in J on QR!

Pretty much what my folks are doing, they'll be in Germany to do some Christmas markets early December too. In the end they decided to avoid the faffing around with getting up to KUL so they're just doing a straight PER-SIN-BER (return) on Scoot in ScootPlus; so premium economy essentially. $4150 return for 2 pax.

Nothing like the last J flights they had, KUL-CDG return on Oman Air for $2,100 per pax.

We were thinking of using ScootPLus for our first leg but it looks like we will have just enough points to use SQ instead. The alternative to China Airlines would be Oman Air.

I can't recall whether it was in this thread, but there was some recent discussion about the 5 'Stans, with it being noted that Turkmenistan was still closed.

It has now re-opened: PNG & Turkmenistan Return, Authentic Middle East & More
Yep going there in May (along with the other 4 Stan’s), thought for a while we wouldn’t be going, every month rumours of reopening then nothing happens.

I'm hoping to finally get there next year. It has been booked since 2020 and has needed to be postponed, for one reason or another, from year to year, but I feel as though 2024 will be the year it finally happens! 🤞

Arranged tour, very unusual for me but Stan’s a bit hard when I have minimal Russian and for once my wife not travelling with me so some company will be appreciated!

What company? I'll be going with Kalpak Travel.

G adventures, possibly lower end of budget but they had a deal that as they say I couldn’t turn down and I’m not afraid of a bit of roughing it. Not that it’s that rough, 3 or 4 star hotels with some yurt camps and home stays but am quite looking forward to that part. Of course looking forward to the QR flights too!
