2022 travel plans

Looks like a great trip and more precious family time with your granddaughter @OATEK . Did you catch covid?
Yes, just past the 7 day mark now and recovering from what I consider a mild dose. Son in law came down 1st and was quite crook for a couple of days, and Mrsoatek at about day 4 but not too ill. Staying with family has made it much easier than if we were in hotels or similar. I think most people in UK have had exposure to covid, so if travelling here you need to be prepared to be exposed at some stage.

@OATEK , yes it was good that you were staying with family at the time. Managing covid whilst staying at a hotel would be much more difficult, that would be my fear.
Glad your dose was mild.

LA to Melbourne in less than 3 weeks on April 8th on Air New Zealand. Stop over in Auckland but us types aren't allowed to leave the airport yet lol! 3 weeks with the Bestie hanging out in Melbourne with a trip to Uluru at the end and then back to LA on April 30th. Tempted to bid on an upgrade to business for the trip back if I can swing it. Super excited!

So our Margaret River break in early August took a sharp turn north yesterday. After a day in Perth we're now flying to Learmouth/Exmouth for a couple of days to go snorkelling with whale sharks and/or humpbacks and hopefully some mantarays.

Will book out our dance card with a short trip someone early October (Melbourne for Mornington Pen) and then most likely a return to Port Douglas/Cairns over new year.

Don't forget a microlight flight!

All I have for 2022 is the entire company is being taken in June to Darwin for a 2020 & 2021 missed our Christmas party & acknowledgement of what we've been through the last 2 years celebrations for 3 nights. People flying in from all states, I dont know about NZ staff at this point.

Chartered flights to Katherine for a cruise lunch, sunset cruises and Mindil sunset dinners plus other things that may include swimming with crocs in a plastic tube (not for me, thanks).

I see my room is a deluxe ocean view and my boss knows hubby always comes with me for work events (people play the game of find MrDenali as he knows hes not to engage with coworkers as its a privilege for him to be there). We're going to take a few extra days to visit hot springs and waterfalls.

Made use of points for MrDenali flights and upgraded my seat so we're both flying J.

What shark swim did you go out with John? Microlight is a go, 60 m will be enough for us both

Ocean Eco: Whale Shark Tours Ningaloo Reef | Exmouth WA | Ocean Eco Adventures

They have a tie-in with the microlight folks, so you can do a package.

They also use the microlights to spot for the whale sharks, operating totally independently of the other boats which share a spotter aircraft. When I went, we went off in a completely different direction than the general fleet and we were by ourselves all day.

Their shop is in the town centre, the first one around the corner from the IGA.

Darwin in June for the National "IPSC" match. Initially booked the direct CBR-DRW flight operated by Alliance...QQ? (and at a civilised hour).. then that was cancelled and I was moved to QQ/ QF metal CBR-BNE-DRW arriving at 1 am... Ugh...
Then in August off to Poland for the first time (via the USA). Large IPSC match there too... :) Back to New Mexico for yet another competition..then up to British Columbia for...well..you can probably guess...😆 Then home via LAX... So looking forward to both trips. Trying the Skycouch on NZ on the way over (solo)... Business back. Premium Economy on LO LAX-WAW.... with a low Plusgrade bid in for Biz on the outbound (inbound is a day flight so..thats fine) Be nice to be "back on the road"...

@bpeteb I also did my Whale Shark swim with Ocean Eco on 24 April 2019 and highly recommend them.

Their spotter plane made sure we got to swim with 5 different sharks for long periods, plus a few dolphins on the way back and they include all the photos they take at no extra cost (and make sure they get multiple shots of each person with the sharks). You get a real workout trying to keep up but so worth it.

Some of my own pics from my trip (the professional ones obviously are clearer):

The lunch was pretty decent too.

Sadly they finish end of July and we’re first week August :(

Ok have to confess I am starting to plan 2023

Just need to work out how to get information about Seoul. Looking at Seoul for me early 2023 lol
Husband will have his usual Denmark in sept
Just hoping we can travel for a few more years

Sadly, I still have no firm plans to travel O/S for the foreseeable future (but what can we foresee?).

I do have lots of plans (and bookings) to travel Oz (like Coffs this week), but until O/S travel is much less hassly I won't be travelling O/S (unless it's a family emergency).

And, one of my nephews is emigrating to Oz from the UK shortly, so that will keep us a bit busy for a little while.

Going to be in Melbourne soon for the F1 weekend pretty much and I will be at the race track :)

Also booked 3 nights on the Gold Coast/Surfers Paradise in early October :)

Yet to be confirmed is a potential Cairns trip in November (probably 3-4 nights). Another alternative is NZ, but I have already booked Auckland for the New Years leave.

Now wondering what would be a good idea for a winter escape around July... or should I save my leave for the spring/summer months?

We have our own static caravan with all mod cons, in south of England and haven't been able to use it since July/August 2019 because of border closures, so looking forward to using it again this British summer for 3 months. Getting out of the cold winter in southern NSW is good too. It is nice to have a base in England from which we can tour various parts of UK and Europe.
Have made many friends in Scotland and Wales too, so have had opportunities of seeing many out of the way places.

Increasingly looks like the only place I'm going this year is mad. And quite rapidly at that.

But I have just booked the wife a trip to Launceston in early June, for some freelance festival thing.
