2013 Centurion Benefits

Avis has a dedicated President's Club team in the US (they probably do here as well) and I've had great service from them, including calling me at my hotel to check that I was happy with the car they delivered - a President's Club benefit is delivery to your hotel - and a comment "I really like to look after my President's Club members" by a call centre agent.

Is it just me or have Centurion not had any 'Invite Only' events listed for the past few months?

Upgrades seem to be much better with Black with FHR. I rarely got upgraded as a Plat - I might get a better room, but rarely an upgrade. However, the only time I didn't was last year at FS Maldives, and was actually explained to me that my stay cross over hari raya haji so it was difficult as they became full on those days. We also need a 2014 thread :D.

I agree the upgrades are definitely more common with Cent. With the FHR I do wish more hotels would follow the Upper House in HKG & give you a $100 credit against food & more importantly wine rather than a spa voucher. At least it means you can use it; the spas at these hotels are often fully booked anyway if you're only there a couple of days. Last time I was in Melbourne for the cup they offered me 3pm on the Tuesday lol

I stay in Park Hyatt Mel every 10 or so days. Always book lowest category room and upgraded at 3/4 categories above 9.9/10. $100 food / bev credit which I always make use of. Can't complain with that benefit - I've been coming back for years.

This is a bit OT unless someone suggests Amex forex for the points but I figure people on this thread are most likely to know the answer.

I have about £600k ( from UK super)in a non interest GBP account in Au that I want to convert to $Au when the rate improves. It's already improving a lot so when it gets close to 0.52 I might start converting it over to $

Who gives the best rates and is safe. Ozforex looks ok & is listed on the ASX so I presume that's safe.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

is there a way to launder it through Citibank debit with no conversion fee? Who (if you don't mind saying) is the account with?

Ozforex is safe and trusted by a few on this board. I have no personal experience.

Lol "launder" I love that word. Probably not as it's in a CBA account in the name of my SMSF so it will have to be a "clean" transaction for auditing purposes

Pukka we use both Amex FX and Ozforex for commercial transactions - we do on the spot comparisons online then call both a screw a little harder to get best rate - much in a muchness - little diff - with Amex you do get 40 MR pts / $1K transacted - does that help at all?

That helps a lot thanks I might make some enquiries with Amex extra points are always welcome :)

Pukka we use Bill Griffen at Bell FX for forex and he is in Melbourne. He comes up with the goods for our business and tends to beat others. No room for MR but you would be paying for them anyway.

Is anyone able to recommend a good RM? Mine is worse than hopeless and I'm going to ask to change.

Preferably someone who just sometimes can answer their phone, checks their email after 4:55pm in emergency situations, and is actually able to solve critical (but seemingly simple) issues?

I had a pretty good one, but he has moved within AMEX to the vendor side of Cent.. don't have anyone assigned as yet (after 2 months)

Although my RM is lovely and proactive, she can't actually do anything to help but more of a glorified phone operator passing me from one department to another . I previously was assigned an account manager for my business cards (until they cancel it for my whole industry!) and he was literally a one shop stop where he can execute most account related issues and liaise directly with other departments for me.

But surely it's a lovely feeling to know that the $5000 annual fee is helping to keep these people gainfully employed!
