I was hospitalized for few months and missed the email saying Krisflyer started expiring again in July.
I checked the app every now and then because it says miles eligible for extension I presumed it’s the free covid period extension…
Those miles was supposed to be for my honeymoon that got posponded due to covid and then my illness.
Has anyone has experience with reinstating their expired miles before? I understand it’s totally my mistake and responsibility, but I’m just hoping they have reinstatement challenge like Asia Miles.. I know KrisFlyer is already very lenient by extending the miles during covid and people may think I’m too greedy or asking for too much, but it took a long time to collect 200k miles and I’m just very heartbroken..

You ought to be able to do a one time only miles extension - for a fee.

I can’t see if you have to apply before they expire?

CS rang me back, they said because it’s only expired for few days they will reinstate the points for me so I can pay to extend the points for half a year!

Excellent result - this was something they didn't have to do.

But it does seem very archaic that KF miles expire - most programmes have moved away from that. Most of us here - even experienced points collectors - seem to have frequent angst about expiring KF miles. It is also very difficult (impossible?) to see when miles are due to expire until they get within 6 months of expiring.

Yes, it's the "hard" expiry that is really draconian and a turn off for many. The usual "expire" if no activity is generally easy to work around in most cases (if you remember!).

The monthly email is easy enough to follow, however granted that relies on you having access to said email account, and actually reading it.

Am I missing something in those emails? Mine only show miles expiring within the next six months.
Nope, that's how they are structured. If you have no miles that will expire within the next six months, you won't see anything.

I believe if you go online to your KF portal, it will have a longer horizon you can review.

KF may be restrictive in its expiry, but it certainly hasn't dulled the demand on some of the most coveted redemption seats in the FF world. Most people warehouse their points in credit card currency (or even Velocity) and only sweep on demand, mostly countering the urgency of three years. Obvious exceptions are the likes of the OP, those who have small balances, those who genuinely fly SQ and partners to build up KF miles and when some of us are "forced" to sweep during certain events, e.g. sweep rate devaluations.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

my dad just had 25.5k KF miles just expire.
He too was in hospital for most of July, now for me to organise if they can be returned back... eek

Trying to book J flights anywhere on SG is ridiculous. All waitlisted. Months out.
They should be extending points until this is fixed.
(And yes I have points expiring soon too.)

Why should (or would) they?

The market is pretty ravenous right now, with people pouncing on what limited inventory there is as soon as it is available.

That's let alone the KrisFlyer elites who have more chances to redeem their points.

It's a little like the fallacy of an air fare sale where no one can seem to find any seats at the sale price on particular dates.

...but if they ever did just extend them, I wouldn't say no. I'd say it's more likely they'd open up more seats than extend miles further (but both are unlikely or they would just defer to waitlists where they have the most flexibility to decide).

We are still having trouble securing paid seats in premium classes on many routes let alone rewards seats. Market is hot hot hot.

I don't think this is a fallacy. I think SQ is withholding award inventory on certain flights and on certain days. They are just not available, even on the supposed release date.
