Interestingly enough, during a nationwide tour in the last two weeks, the Qantas recruitment team touted a strong need for new pilots, and this demand would continue at least for two to three years, despite current oil prices.... I wonder if this view has now changed?

QF have been a bit quiet about this, JQ have announced they aren't recruiting anymore pilots for the rest of the year and DJ are on a complete freeze (after deferring their Embraer jets).

QF are in a slightly different boat, they still have several new aircraft types coming in which they will need to skill up for, plus even though they have poached some pilots from DJ they are still short in QF Link - I'm not sure how the accelerated retirements of the Dash8-100's have affected this though.

A bit of a dilemma for those looking to become a professional pilot......... over the short to medium term.
