20% Reduction in Platinum/Platinum One Retention Thresholds (July/Aug/Sept Membership Year Ends)

To me, it s pretty clear that QFF has an optimal number of members in each tier. The limiting factor is lounge capacity. All other perks can scale if needed. Working backward, and assuming the number of members in each tier should be spread roughly evenly across 12 months, qantas see a dip for the next few months, and Qantas wants to avoid that to keep the status handcuffs on members, within the limits they set, which again I think is just lounge capacity.

Noone is loosing because of this 20% reduction, I don't agree with the negatif feeling of this status suport, on a rational level.

I don't know, but what I do know is that demand is so high what we are finding is that quite often we are struggling to get bums on seats on preferred flights.

We had a lot of trouble getting people on trans tasman flights for a while and US flights in particular - big problems.
That’s flying in the present and recent past. This initiative is obviously determined by projections of future flying etc which doesn’t sound as rosy as we might of thought

Reviews would suggest QF First Lounge is superior to the Emirates lounge.
Personal experience suggests otherwise.

I can see that QF has made an effort to address the rather large imbalance they created with the last extension lasting til June and then nothing. I think what they have done here goes some way to try to even it up a little, but imo it's just added to the lack of fairness for many members.
yes, but remember prior to the last extension there were leapfrogging status extensions for everybody. It was just a matter where it stopped and the next cohort said wha! I didn’t get anything.

The same can be said right now.

What if they didn't do a 20% reduction and instead continued to allow WP/P1 to guest non-travelling guests into domestic lounges ;)

Personal experience suggests otherwise.

That's the thing about personal experience, it's different for everyone.

I believe the article being refered to was The World’s Best First Class Airline Lounges, which ranked the QF lounge above all three ME3 main hub lounges, and EK the bottom of those three.

"The problem? The lounge is so big that it actually feels incredibly sterile and unwelcoming. You feel like you’re sitting in a terminal rather than in a top first class lounge. The lounge doesn’t have an intimate and residential-feeling design, like you’d find in Cathay Pacific’s lounge, for example"

My opinion is that when you get to these top tier lounges it's quite subjective depending on individual tastes and what you personally value.

And in Sydney the QF First is always ranked ahead of the the combines EK first/J. Like I said I care not for the lounges in the ME I will never go there.

I'd also note that as far as I can tell the "announcement" has been via third parties (eg: ET) rather than a QF newsroom post or web page - so to that extent is it really an official announcement, or folks like ET pouncing on the email and confirming details with QF and reporting it? In which case it actually is more of the former....
There is an official web page for this, but it's not prominently front and center anywhere that I can see.

I am happy to have received another 12 month Platinum status extension. Thanks Qantas. I appreciate it.
What was your month end, and what has your travel been like over the last few years?

Trans Tasman is better now but US is still very tight. We send people monthly.

As pointed out above, it would be a surprising and sad state of affairs if any airline had a better lounge at an outlier port than than an airline at its principal, home port!! That said, I think QR comes close sometimes!!

Have you ever been in the EK FLounge in Dubai? Or the QR Al Safwa?

My opinion is that when you get to these top tier lounges it's quite subjective depending on individual tastes and what you personally value.

Absolutely agree - and when anyone has personal experience at a range of FLounges, they are able to give their own opinion, and not one of some blogger ).

You know I have zero interest in visiting the ME - i wont visit or give my tourism dollars to regimes where women do not have equal rights and risk incarceration if they are the victim of a crime. No amount of bling will see me sell out my values.

That said i never mentioned any ME lounges, my post were about SYD; and Ive never met anyone who rate EK SYD higher than QF F SYD.

But you ignore the fact that QF HKG J lounge is superior to the CX J Lounge. And the CX J Lounge at LHR is better than BA J lounge. So home airport guarantees nothing.

Our value systems are clearly different, and you are a known hater of all things QF so far from objective.

Some may value this "blogger" as more impartial than a forum member who quite frankly is known for his opinions on Qantas...

And that's fine. It's all subjective and everyone is entitled to their own opinion - or whose opinion they want to listen to.

QF First in LAX 😝
I suppose there's no airline with LAX as their home port though.

That said, I think QR comes close sometimes!!
I would say the QR Premium Lounge in Changi is better than Singapore Airlines SilverKris Business

I'm talking ANY lounge Vs ANY lounge at an airport. And hater of all things QF?? 😂 I'm just contemptuous of the way Qantas management has treated its customers over the past year, that's all. You'll see plenty of posts positive to QF from me, even lately.

PS I hope you've taken notice of the post here recently of the way a woman was treated at Sydney Airport, Qantas domestic security and your value system holds strong.

And I'm sure I agree ;), likewise a forum member who just can't find fault with them (not you, of course). I think OMaaT is good - I read and quote regularly. But my comment remains. I value my personal experience more than his in forming an opinion.

Fair call! :)

On my recent experience, I'd honestly also call it above the Silver Kris F Lounge at T2 at Changi (not T3, of course!). After the recent SIN (OneWorld) Lounge Crawl, JT called the QR J lounge above the QF F Lounge there, and all the others.

I can’t imagine there’d be that many non travelling guests going into domestic lounges. For the time and cost of travelling to the airport unless living nearby you could get a much nicer meal elsewhere probably with spare change.

I won’t miss non travelling guests but there are other “enhancements” they could do that would impact me negatively.

I received the email. Have requal’d WP at the lower tier but would have achieved the standard 1200 anyway before the end of July based on return flights from my current travels. At least I don’t have to worry about late posting of those SCs!
