Have noticed that these companies will ask when making a claim if you have used a qualifying credit card for your pre-departure costs (airfares, accom etc) even though you have paid for a standalone policy.

This is new to me, as they didn't do this a few years ago.

Seems a bit cheeky to defer the costs to a complimentary policy that may have a higher excess for example.

The companies will likely share the cost between them in some way. The PDS for the respective policies should outline how they treat claims where there are two separate policies.

It might be that one pays out to their limit, and the other covers the shortfall. Or they might split it in another way.

You may be up for excesses on both policies.

Having double insurance can be beneficial for circumstances where your CC doesn’t include something, like cruise or snow sports.
